When trying to re-install the power steering pump I somehow pulled off the
connector that connects to the EVO solenoid off the wires. Do I have to
replace it? I’m not sure what it does. I’d rather not have to pull the pump
again if possible. Thanks!
I am about to replace the steering gear from my 1995 Saturn SC2. You
recommended removing the power steering pump to make it easier to remove
the hoses. Since I am not replacing the pump do I need to remove the pulley
in order to remove the hoses? Your videos are great. Thanks!
ok so i am having to replace the pulley because the original one is cracked
in a few places close to the center. …….but anyway.. how do install
this now? install the new pulley on the new pump and then install the pump
in the car? ..the pulley cant be installed on the pump after the pump is in
the car.. i read in the saturn forum that the motor mount has to be taken
off and the engine jacked up before the pump can be installed.. i hope i
dont have to do that…
actually its a sohc. I pulled a pump from a junkyard with a pulley on it.
can i replace the whole thing. i mean, i dont have that fancy pulley tool.
seems easier without taking the pulley out of the old one. know what i mean?
i know ive been posting on older videos but i was wondering if it is
possible to add power steering to my 1999 SL 1.9l 5 speed i guess ive been
spoiled in the past
When I watch these videos I always think “that was so easy…” but at the
same time I know that if I hadnt watched this video I would never manage it
…thanks a lot Rich. Excellent videos.
On my 3rd gen, there is enough wiggle in the hoses to not have to mess with
the line clip. Also, the EVO connector is a whole lot less aggravating if
you disconnect it after the pump is loose.
Hi rich I own a Toyota truck, I was checking out my inner tie rods, I
pulled the bellows boot off, and got a handful of fluid…are these trucks
supposed to have some fluid in the boot..it’s a 04 tundra..thanx rich
ok im about to try this job on my 97 SL1 right now in just a minute.. ive
never done this… its a SOHC and will i need to remove the pulley before i
can remove the power steering pump? .. i hope its not damaged.. it was
locking up and smoking.. with the shaft coming out about half way.. i
knocked it back in..
Just pulled and replaced on my SOHC SL-1… and then, in the bottom of the
box for the new pump, found a replacement O-ring for the high pressure
line. I’m going to tie a little piece of a white rag under the connection
and watch that really closely for any leakage at all. But FYI for anyone
else doing this job, don’t forget about that O-ring. I don’t think I can
get to it now without pulling the pump again 🙁
These are great videos, though they would be even better with a word about
diagnostics. Was the pump leaking from it’s seals? I presume if the pump is
leaking your best option is to swap out the whole pump….
also…. installing the pulley on the new pump.. do i need that puller
again i guess? or can i tap it on somehow? the whole shaft came out of the
old one… i didnt know that the new pump came with a new shaft already set
in the pump…
The 14mm wrench is what i used to loosen the tensioner for removing the
serpentine belt.
thank you richie, my car is a saturn 1999 sl1, but in another video I saw
you used a 14mm to loose the tensioner. I’m confused now, hehehe
Hello…on the Saturn s-series i use a 10mm six point socket.
Hi richie I’m from Mexico, I want to know what size is the wrench for the
tensioner, for removing the serpentine belt??
The EVO firms up the steering when you are beyond a certain speed.

You are a very good person to work on her car.
Thank you richpin
Your vids are extremely helpful my niece has this dohc and i always have to
wrk on it and i always watch you first…lol thanks again
I am not sure how much room there would be with the pulley on.

so i need to totally mount the pump and bracket in the car … ? and then
install the pulley ?
If you have all the parts i do not see why you could not convert it over to
power steering.
No partly install like in the video.

well from looking at the video.. it looks like the pulley is about as far
down as it will go.. none of the shaft should be showing i assume..
Did they change the exhaust manifold from 97 to 98? My 97 SL2 doesn’t have
the “squared off” manifold like that.
It restricts pressure to the rack over a certain RPM to firm up the feel of
the steering.
wow another instalike awesome video!!

If you have a DOHC yes
Yes you can replace the pump and pulley together. And i might add it is
easier to do on the SOHC.
When I watch these videos I always think “that was so easy…” but at the

I have used that one on ever vehicle i can think of.

and what about bleeding the line? do i really need to do that?
97 and 98 were the same.
but if i install the pump first.. then i wont have enough room to get the
pulley between the shaft and fire wall …will i ?
What does the solenoid do on the power steering pump?
I have it in pictures but no videos.
Most have background music from my radio which i am removing.
Please bear with me as i redo some of the Saturn videos over the next
couple of days.

You will have to pry them from my dead hands.
hey rich, looks like someone is using your video to sell their goods, might
want to flag the vid. jqNTJqPvDxg
There is not supposed to be fluid in the boot sounds like your steering
gear might be developing a leak.

Thank you for spotting that. How do i flag the vid.
Another job well done sir!
