Phantom universal modchip install for Model 2 Sega Saturn

Phantom universal modchip install for Model 2 Sega Saturn

After being unable to find a video in english detailing how to install the Phantom Modchip for the Sega Saturn, I decided to upload one myself. This video is specifically for a model 2 NTSC Saturn. Hope this video helps. I apologize in advance for the terrible quality of the video, this is my first upload and I have no idea what I am doing. Thanks for watching!

So basically this modchip is useless with out an action replay? 10 minutes in video.

Ste Coleman says:

is there any burned games that will not boot with this ?

duhmez says:

I read your coment below so no worries I have action replay plus 4 so I am good to go.

duhmez says:

So am i right that this mod chip does NOT fix the region? action replay is required?

Sushi says:

Question Jeremy, did the phantom chip come with its wire (within the phantom modchip box) to wire the board towards the power supply?

Nelson Leonel says:

Hello Jeremy, thanks for the video, I live in Portugal (pal system), I have v2, does this chip reproduce backup copies of all region? Or do I have to patch the iso in my region? .. the chip and the action replay together to playback copies or just the chip or just antion replay? … I'm sorry, I have some confusion about the matter.
best regards

So this mod chip lets you play backups, but not imports? I've read online that the reverse was true. Can anyone confirm which is true?

Will this work on my 500GB PS4? If so, which ribbon cable would I use, the 20 pin or the 21 pin cable? I tried to get it working on a Nintendo 64 so I could play Xbox 360 games on it. I had to swap cpu pins 24 and 52 on the motherboard to get it to turn on but other than that it works. The problem is that when I insert an Xbox 360 game it just makes a weird noise and won't actually play the game. I even tried it with an older game (Halo 3 which only requires dashboard version 2.0.8498.0) but this doesn't seem to work on a Nintendo 64 no matter which ribbon cable I use. I tried Doom for the Sega Saturn and it almost worked but the screen kept glitching and it would keep freezing to a black screen making the game unplayable. I thought it was supposed to disable the region locking and copyright restrictions but it just doesn't work on the Nintendo 64, probably because Nintendo consoles just don't have enough power to run real games that are actually good.
So does anybody know if this would work on a PS4? Could the processing power of a Saturn bios actually keep up with the technology of the PS4 or would I only be able to play Xbox One games on this?

Tariq Marshall says:

Thanks for the upload. Does drawing power from the PSU result in any noise or occasional loss of chip functionality? Some guides recommend drawing it from the CD drive itself.

By the way, the orange boards were manufactured by Sanyo.

DarthRyuu says:

best modchip for the saturn! goes with all V1 and V2 models! but it doesnt allow to play original imports, only backups whatever the region

you can use Saturn Region Patcher to patch your iso to your saturn's region before burning and then you wont need the action replay except for the SNK/Capcom games that need the 1MB/4MB ram card

if you dont want to soder you can jam the cable in into the power suply pin and it works too

Airys Dark says:

Hmmm mine has a laptop PSU sigh painful

Airys Dark says:

If I buy one of you I don't won't the one you dropped lol

Christopher Babishoff says:

Just a little FYI here. As far as the region is concerned, there is a program out there for patching the ISO to match your region. Just patch it before you burn it. You still need the action replay or a ram cart for games like metal slug, but for Japanese region games in general, that bit can be patched.

Thanks for the video. Looks amazingly simple.

Hello friend! I have some questions. Can I play warcraft II pal backup copy and european pal backups with universal phantom modchip in a american sega saturn model 2B? using action replay 4M? or can not run pal games ?

unrealdevon says:

Guess i need to change the bios chip to get it to play imports without using a action replay.

GoodWilHustlin says:

Great video, just got my chip. Now to decide which Saturn to install it in, model 1 or 2.

Matthew Stapleton says:

Jeremy Robertson says:
