A smart auto company does not make essential driving parts out of “wear and
tear” plastic parts that can break like that, unlike Saturn, hence them
being out of business. I am glad you have had a good experience but I have
not. If my brakes go out after I have followed maintenance, you’re damn
right I’ll be mad. The part’s price varies, not to mention the cost of
trouble and services needed to take the damn thing some place to a mechanic
to fix it after it becomes basically immobile.

TheSaturnVue says:

that happened to me and it was $25 to fix.

This just happened this morning to me heading to work. My car has 54k miles
and it has been driven quite nicely. Even if you drive aggressively, this
should never, ever happen! This is what happens when you make important and
essential pieces out of plastic. I am on the phone with my local dealer
about it, but I bet you they will screw me as I have heard many others have
been screwed.

Malakai's Mommy says:

These people are just complaining. It’s a wear and tear part. Any moron can
snap it in. Geesh. I’m a girl. I fixed BOTH of mine. It’s not just a Saturn
issue. My Caviler and Corolla, did the same thing, after many miles.

Malakai's Mommy says:

It is a wear and tear part!!! I have 300,000 miles on my Saturn and it just
broke! My other Saturn SC2, had over 200,000 miles on it, before it broke.
Both times I had this problem, it was below freezing. You don’t get mad
when your brakes go out and think your car is crap. I’ve owned Saturn for
16 years. Great cars!!! Other than wear and tear parts, no huge repair
bills. The part is only $37 bucks and unless you’re a moron, you can snap
it in yourself.

BritPatJax says:

@SuperSexyCommando about $500 and the other cable that comes with it is
fine??

Mike Page says:

If the odometer says 06995 isn’t that either 7 thousand or close to
107thousand miles? not 70,000miles!

NCC74913 says:

This happend to my car twice. The first time my mecanic called Saturn and
they said the the whole shift cable had to be replaced. He ordered the part
and when it arived it did not even have to adjuster on it and that was the
part that broke. He returned the cable and just ordered the adjuster and
put it in. The second time I fixed it my self. Tried to order the part and
the dealer said that it could only be replaced with the cable. I told them
what happend last time.

SuperSexyCommando says:

Same thing happen to me yesterday. How did you fix it ? How much did it
cost?

NCC74913 says:

Continued from first comment. I told them that last time the cable was
ordered and that the adjuster did not come with it. I paid $40.00 for the
part and put it in my self. It is a piece of plastic junk. Will last about
three years depending on how much you drive. I have a manual transmission
vehicle not automatic.

BritPatJax says:

The cable (and they come as a pair) had seized inside its shaft…..so both
had to be replaced..???
