Is it possible to swap the Saturn model Jap PSU with a Pal Model 1 PSU? Or should i just use the stepdown converter with the Saturn. Thanks 🙂

Gasosag says:

Hello, I am troubleshooting my Sega Saturn and was wondering if you have an idea. I was trying to fix a mod on my Saturn but I must have created a serious problem. My Saturn turns on, has disc assembly movement, and transmits a signal to the TV but no picture or sound. I assume it is part of the power supply but not sure which component is faulty.

robby rivai says:

I hv the same problem, I hv Japanese Saturn, I use step down transformer. replace the varistor still it gets blown
Now you say that the Varistor act as big fuse, cuz I change the varistor a few time already, I suspect theres another problem which cause the varistor blown, see im not electronic literate, i do thankful if you can point me what could cause the varistor to blown. Many Thanks!

Thomas Derp says:

Damn luke youre lucky, I messed up a saturn durning a region job and got it fixed, but something mustve touched inside when I was playing, and the fuse blew just like this one. Mine on the other hand damaged something on the board, causing it to have video issues (strange on screen coulours) Mind givin me help on finding out what is the issue?

hagebunshin says:

Hello Lukemorse1, i live in Japan and got a saturn from an auction, the problem is that it starts and turns off constantly, could you please give me at least a clue about what should i check?, any help will be really appreciated.

borobengal says:

No matter which model you have, they all become faulty. The Saturn is average in quality, more so power board and lenses. If they go on the blink, always replace them with news ones if you can get them. A Japanese model in the UK, got for the white 240V model, as no need for a step down adaptor. Or just simply fit a UK power board. Same goes with the Dreamcast.

Kevin Twiner says:

Man that was a challange bro. Glad too see you managed too fix it. Good stuff! :p

Bleste011 says:

awesome repair job. I got myself the same model Saturn a few years ago but the fuse was blown. Did you still replace the fuse and if so what type of fuse do you need to replace?

Ashley Holroyd says:

Hi Luke I have two Dreamcast one of them is a Japanese 1 that I accidentally plugged a UK 230v power supply into if I swap the power board from my UK pal Dreamcast and put it into the Japanese Dreamcast will it work

That was entertaining to watch when the fuse popped. LOL!

Slackiiin says:

Hey Luke!

I´ve been watching your videos for a while, but I´m kinda noobish when it comes to arcades. But I wanna learn more, that´s why I´m watching.
Could you maybe make a Arcade 101 series when you explain like how everything works and what everything is and so on…
Thought you might be the right guy to do that since you can repair what ever comes in your way.

Matt Grace says:

keeping the dreamcast alive nice work

Pedro Silva says:

I see someday you will open an arcade & repair & restaurant

Stuff I Wrote says:

Dude, I almost started blubbing tears of joy when that Saturn powers on again. Glad it gave you as much of a headache as it did to me though haha! Glad to see a Model 1 saved. We have to preserve them! 🙂

@Daniel Glior You and what content? LOL. What good are you at providing this community with content and support?! You’re not helping it at all, the only thing you are doing is making it look bad. gtfo

Paul PhoeniX says:

Finally some fireworks!. XD

dextercf says:

I have never seen a sega saturn IRL.
I still had to watch this whole video, just because of awesome!

electricadventures says:

Yes wrong power supply is always a bad one with different degrees of bad. I blew a wire in the transformer of my Sony MSX 2+ machine (I got from the Netherlands & thought had been converted – grr sellers). A friend of mine has just about finished building a new power supply circuit for it (cheaper than trying to fix the transformer). Has it working bar the -12V needed for the cartridge slot.

Nyder says:

I was worried about ruining my saturn, when I was in the UK I bought a Hong Kong Saturn, which is a white NTSC-J saturn but has 220 power supply, so I had no trouble in UK. But now I’m back in Canada and I can’t use it, any ideas where I could pick up a Japanese Sega Saturn PS? I know theres a bunch of different ones, not sure what to do.
Cheers for the great vids!

Watching this makes me wish my Sega CD Model 1, Game Gear and original DS were working

lukemorse1 says:

lol, thanks a lot man, I really appreciate it a lot

lukemorse1 says:

haha, I never knew that the cd-i had issues like that, very interesting man

lukemorse1 says:

sure thing man. its not a capacitor, my fault. its a Varistor. if you arent technical than dont worry about it. this part just protects the rest of the system from getting fried, think of it as a big fuse. it pops when way too much voltage is applied. anyway, the part number for this is: GNR 05D221K and you can get them on ebay. just type or copy that number and you will find them for about 3 pounds parts in the UK. hope that helps man 🙂
