There is no need to remove the AC compressor. I just replaced my water pump and serpentine belt today without removing the AC compressor. Jack up the passenger side of your car and remove the right front tire. Remove the spash shields and you will be able to access the water pump and serpentine belt tensioner.
I think that “plate that the pump runs around” is called a pulley. 😀 Goofy boys.
