How To Replace Struts In Your Car.

ohhhshitson says:

my rear bounces like crazy when I drive. is this an easy fix? just the
struts? wish i had a friend like you in real life !

Easton Miley says:

i have a 1988 pontiac firebird v6 2.8 liter engine is the strut assembly
just as easy to replace as in this video since its a rear wheel drive car?

Guy Montag says:

My kyb front passenger strut is new (1 month old). Recently i hit a pot
hole and now the car hits bumps hard but it sounds and feels like it only
comes from front passenger side. What could this be?

lilperchhunter says:

thanks Scotty, i had to do them on my wife’s 99 crv, i was able to yank the
wishbone off the bottom of the strut on the car and only had to take the
wheel off, it was a little tight tho, also used a quick struts so i didn’t
get a spring to the face.(her spring was broken) i was smart tho and stayed
in the garage and had a cold beer with the time i saved because of your
video……thanks man

ian ramirez says:

After i repaced my strut and strut mount on the left side had a
creacking/squeaking sound. What seems yhe problem?

Preston Darnell says:

Anyone know how to go about lowering a car should i buy new springs or cut
maybe and inch off of them ?

Saurabh Sarang says:

Scotty you are so much active soo much of energy. Every veins you have are
pumped with fire. I learn a lot from your videos. Thumbs up Scotty !

Guy Montag says:

Hey Scotty I replaced my strut about a month ago. a week ago I hit a very
small break in the road (same feeling as hitting a small pothole) with my
front passenger side tire. Now I can feel every bump on the road on that
left tire. It’s like all bumps on the road aern’t absorbed like they use to
before I hit that bump on the road. Now the car hits bumps kinda hard with
force on that tire. There is also a very small vibration in the steering
wheel, so small that you can visually see the steering wheel shake but you
feel it when driving and I never noticed it before my incident with the
bump. The car also makes a low humming sound that sounds like its coming
from that same tire only at very low speeds (0-20mph). When I accelerate at
a faster speed it goes away. If the car is moving with its own momentum at
a low speed without my foot on the gas I also hear this low hum. I checked
the wheel for any play and it feels solid. I checked the control arm and
any suspension part near the wheel and there is also no play. I checked the
strut bolts to see if they needed tightening and they are still torqued to
cars specs and tight. I pressed against the front passenger side of the car
to see if it would bounce but it returns to position like the drivers side.
What am I missing?

Hey thanks for sharing your videos, they’re awesome! My BREAK lights are on
when I turn my car on, so how do I fix this problem.

n310ea says:

Hey Scotty, would you also recommend Monroe Sensa-Trac?

anta0kiku says:

scotty would welcome prayer, how to replace a volvo 850 1994 2.5 125 kw
rear axle (subframe) bushings and they look like two holes 8 only one hole
is larger and the other smaller and in the middle of a press similar to the
rubber cover, please make a video. thanking the fans for the Estonian
andres.k

Scotty Kilmer says:

well, replace them then, if you don’t want to mess with removing springs on
struts, they do sell ones with springs installed, though they cost more

Scotty Kilmer says:

they can bounce too much, or cause weird tire wear, or handle poorly on
higher speed cornering

Liam Palmer says:

my mazda needs new rear struts. do you have a video on replacing rear ones?

szaki says:

I had an Audi 5000, to replace the cartridge, don’t need to remove the
struts. Cartridge came out on the top of the strut still in the car. Needed
a special tool, though. $90! Also the heater core can be removed through
the engine compartment in one assembly, easy. Done it. German engineering!

casinero55 says:

Hi. How I can replace the sway bar links on a chrysler sebring ?

na, they should all be the same size.

Nivicoman says:

wow what brand is any good anymore? It’s been almost 30 years since I
replaced shocks on my 67 Impala with the Monroematics. Other cars I’ve
owned since either didn’t need shocks/struts in the time I owned them or
I’ve had a shop do it for around $400 both sides but that was 18 years or
so ago.

tcs0658 says:

Scotty, Your video’s have helped me do a lot of self repair on my aging
car. Thank you for these. However, I am now stumped. I have a knocking in
my front suspension from my ’06 mazda 3. I have checked all the components
and it all seems to be solid. I did notice a little bit of play in the half
shaft, so that may need some work, but I don’t feel like that is the
problem. The knocking only rears its ugly head at low speeds. What else
should I be checking that could cause these noises?

Scotty Kilmer says:

yes, they can, and espeically worn strut mounts will do that

Nivicoman says:

What do you think of complete strut assemblys like at Autozone? Is it worth
the time saved by not having to disassemble the old strut and changing the
individual strut cartridge, bearing, isolators etc?

56v12cylinder says:

scotty-KYB or MONROE struts?

Minh Nguyen says:

Mr. Kilmer what coil compressor tool are you using in the video? Where can
I get one? i found a few on ebay, but I am unsure of their quality.

Scotty Kilmer says:

replace the bent tie rod first and pray it’s just that .

Scotty Kilmer says:

just cheapies from auto zone. I have a 1000 dollar set up, but I rarely use
it as it’s a pain in the ass to set up

Scotty Kilmer says:

yea, work slow and make sure you put the safety latches on before you start
tightening up the nuts to compress the spring. I assume you are doing it by
hand which is much safer. It’s the air gun work that gets dangerous as they
go pretty fast.

fgleich says:

Scotty, did you also replace the other steering components you had to
remove to get the strut out or reuse them ?

912dwest says:

why u make it look so easy

Daniel V says:

Woah Scotty made it look easy without breaking a sweat! Keep up the good
work mate!

Scotty Kilmer says:

auto zone, harbor freight tools.

David Garcia says:

Thanks!
