wafrederick says:

It is a bad sending unit in GMs,no further testing done and this a very
common problem with GMs.

spelunkerd says:

Another very practical demo. Do you get these from diagnostic algorithms
from a dealer’s shop? I find these intriguing from a theory perspective,
which takes a little backward engineering from you videos. But it’s cool to
just know how it’s practically done in the real world.

Blokheadz says:

gotta question for you.. i have somewhat of the same problem but my gas
gauge.. when i put gas in .. in like a week it is low..and it reads that i
have low gas..i mean i will fill it up.. and its gone in a wk… and when
it is on E..or low when i start to drive the car.. it goes back up..?? any
help?

John Johnson says:

Fired right up today.Problem solved.

richpin06a says:

It is good that you spotted that.

richpin06a says:

Important Update: Jan 2013 there will be a new richpin channel for all
future videos.Richpin06a channel will be mainly for all the Saturn lovers
out there.Should be a lot of fun so stay tuned.

abcdee20 says:

hey a have a 2002 grand prix and the gas gauge will show when i turn the
key what i have but then once its gets below half a tank when i turn the
key it will just go up and show its full and when im driving it shows its
full anyone have any idea what it is thanks

smazz104 says:

Great Vid Richpin, Quick question- you said the 100ohm resister duplicates
roughly 1/2 tank of gas. So, you are saying that will be the reading on
anyones(roughly) car from that set up no matter how much gas is actually in
the car – assuming the Wiring and the gauge are working properly?

Samuel says:

Hey Rich I gotta a problem with my 85 mustang. For some reason when i fill
my tank up it will fill all the way up but after a few miles of driving the
gas gauge will start to go down quickly all the way to empty, then slowly
go back up to full and after that i will kinda just bounce around.

mtwara1 says:

Do you know how to fix on volvo v40. Thanks

Инжектор-Сервис Воронеж says:

Very well ! Thanks from Russian fan!

Benjamin Muth says:

@richpin06a love your videos and as a first time owner of a 98 sl2 they
have been a big help. One problem i have that maybe you could shed some
light on, is my fuel gauge works and low fuel light lights when the car is
started but the light will never come on when i am actually low on fuel,
any ideas

John Johnson says:

Now if i could just figure out why the car doesnt want to start very well
on the first attempt.Turn the key back off and then try to start it again
and it fires right up.Do you have any idea why it acts like this?

Carliemarie92 says:

Is it an easy fix?

CP240sx says:

I was under my 85 Park Avenue today and instead of using a 100 ohm resistor
I just used a paper clip and the gauge showed totally empty which is
exactly what I expected based on watching your video. The gauge always
shows over full. The needle disappears past full mark which tells me the
wire connector on the top of the tank is not making contact with the male
end. I painted the metal cover that is over the pump and I am now sure that
messed up the signal that monitors the fuel level. Thanx

Blokheadz says:

smh.. my mechanic is an idiot then.. i paid like $240..part was $140 and
repair $100 (which personally i dont see how) for i guess its call a fuel
assembly whatever.. before we got this fixed i told him lets diagnose this
thing and make sure its just not the fuel gauge float(whatever its called)
guess what .. got it fixed.. filled up the tank.. still not working like
what you showed me here.. and im highly mad. i wasted money…ima female i
aint stupid..stupid for not going wit what i first said

JohnzCarz says:

Was the jumper to the gray wires to power the fuel pump? Just wondering why
you couldn’t just have the ignition ‘on’ to make the gauge read, instead of
running the car. The other test would be to measure resistance on the fuel
level sender side to confirm that’s the problem. You are becoming a Saturn
expert!

richpin06a says:

@tookimonster333 You would have to have a factory service manual.

tookimonster333 says:

How did you determine what size resistor to use? I guess what I’m asking is
how would you figure out what to use for another car?

richpin06a says:

@mtwara1 Can’t say i do sorry about that..

richpin06a says:

@smazz104 Yes that is right.

richpin06a says:

@Brown1286 If we were the same i think the world would be out of
balance….haha

knightrider1545 says:

Those 90 degree gauges just grind my gears.

richpin06a says:

The 99 did not have problems like the 97 not to say you do not have a
problem with the pump/check valve on yours.A simple pressure test would
confirm if there is a problem.

jhep1985 says:

But you didn’t say how yo fix it ….

richpin06a says:

@MrJefffoley Sounds to me like a possible problem with the unit in the tank.

Thesby Tolbert says:

great work!my 2007 chevy trailblazer is having that same problem!

Arnold D says:

The fuel guage in my 1994 SC2 read empty all the time….it turned out I
had a pin hole in the sending unit float that filled the float with fuel
and did not allow the float to rise. Ford sells a brass fuel float that is
the same size as the Saturn, Ford pn COAZ-9202-B.

DemonratarianPatriot says:

Good info, my mom’s 99′ Saturn SW2 station wagon has the same problem, will
that work like you did in the video?

Blokheadz says:

@richpin06a the one time i put in like $20 worth of gas and i dont know the
mileage(not good with cars) but i know that was and had to be filled up
..but within a wk it was down to almost E.. so i dont fill it all the way
up anymore..there’s no point.
