DIY Convertible Top Restoration Guide – Pontiac Solstice, Saturn SKY, and All Cloth Tops!

Unfortunatly this process will not repair damaged fibers like the top in the video but, I show you how to restore the color on your convertible top of your Pontiac Solstice GXP, Sosltice Base, Saturn Sky, using Renovo Convertible Top Restorer from England. This process can be used on ANY and ALL cloth-top convertibles, not just those on the Kappa Platform.

To complete the job, you’ll need a 2-inch brush, Renovo, a small cup, convertible top sealer of your choice, access to a car wash, and clean-up supplies.

Here are the steps to follow:

Step 1: Wash the convertible top and remove any grease or contaminants.

Step 2: Allow the top to dry completely and remove any lint.

Step 3: Using a 2-inch brush, apply one coat of Renovo to the entire top in a cool, shaded area. Avoid applying Renovo in direct sunlight as it may dry white.

Step 4: Apply a second coat of Renovo using the same process. Allow 24 hours to dry. You can apply additional coats of Renovo if needed.

Step 5: Wash the vehicle and allow it to dry.

Step 6: Apply a convertible top sealer of your choice to the cloth portion of the top. Allow 24 hours to dry.

I may be doing this to my Saturn Sky my top. My top looks great but will it help to preserve it long term?

I saw another video like yours and used Riddye. It called for a mold and mildew remover first and then either paint it on like you did with a brush or a foam rubber paint brush.
I’m selling the car and that’s the draw back it’s the original and faded to gray.
I’m going to try the Rit Dye only because I have it sold if they like the way it turns out.
My only concern is the dye on the original top is staining the rocker panels and I’m concerned that the Rit Dye might do the same or worse if they’re even possible.
