The recirc door is definitely something that you want working and yes it does affect hot and cold. How do I know? Because I designed them for 10 years.

Saturn's we're well built cars in their hayday, when Gm incorporated them in the late 90's they cheaped them out and ruined there reputation. I have a 93 that was setting almost 10yrs. 188k on the OD/ charged the battery and she started right up!

Not a "fix" … the door is still not closing/opening correctly. Correct fix is to fix the root cause of the issue.
My Mack Metroliner did the same thing. Drive you crazy…

unplug the actuator.
Had the same thing in a 19993 Silverado step side, it'd thump the passenger floor every time a shut the truck off
