Oscar Barrionuevo says:

that work for a 94 saturn sw1?

Qkixotic says:

Thanks for this video, you’re a lot more helpful than the Hayne’s manuals!

Sean Wilhelm says:

Thank you for all your videos on the Saturn SL. Your videos have helped me
out multiple times.

MICHAEL says:

Lamar, It could be anything from a bad fuseable link to a parasitic draw on
your battery. You might save some time by taking it to an electrical shop
since everything else has been changed.

richpin06a says:

If you are only getting 12.2v at idle there is something wrong with the
alternator.

Bigbabydog1 says:

Richpin, Thanks for your videos on Saturn, they have encouraged me to
replace the starter, brake pads & rotors on my 98 SL with 188K. I tackled
the alternator this past Sunday, all seem good, but last night after
driving home from work about 13 miles, the red electrical indicator began
to flicker again when RPM went down below 1100 It is a manual trans, but
when it stabilized at about 700 the indicator went out. Could the tensioner
be bad? Or any other advice, I would like to repair myself.

Mat ManserPhotography says:

Hello. I have replaced my alternator and I’m still having a problem. Any
advice would be greatly appreciated. I’m boosting my 1997 Saturn SC2 and as
soon as I take the booster cables off, the Saturn stalls. Any ideas? Could
the used alternator I bought be broken or could there be a bad connection
somewhere? Thank you for the helpful video!

bcameron3 says:

@richpin06a Thanks for the video by the way. Very helpful! I found that
there was a plastic shroud over the alternator and its held on by 1 10mm
(If I remember correctly) bolt on the back of the alternator. I found it
under some caked oil that was back there so I imagine that’s what the
shroud is for.

richpin06a says:

Then 2000 SL has one wire not counting the fuseable link wire.

busyliving45 says:

Very good , thank you , was so easy . Thanks

Bob G says:

Best way to test the alternator is to drive to the autoparts store and use
their in-vehicle test tool. It tests your battery, alternator and starter.

richpin06a says:

@campauchicken You can try penetrating oil.

bcameron3 says:

How do you remove the plastic shield that’s around the alternator? I have a
’97 SL1

yerboogieman says:

I used a deep socket but I think it was slightly too long and I had to use
a socket bolt head and a wrench to get it off. Great Video, helped a ton.

richpin06a says:

One area you can look at is the crank sensor when they fail the engine will
have no spark and of course will stop running.

richpin06a says:

@undergroundpredator Never tried to get at the bolt from the bottom might
be possible

mrcdepicts says:

Hi i was wondering how you removed the electrical connecter so easily? I
have a mitsubishi express 1991 van and i cant get it to budge!

Rob Moore says:

If I removed the tire and splashpan, Is it possible to tighten the top
STARTER bolt? I guess whoever worked on my wife’s car didn’t tighten the
top bolt at all. I think it’s stripped (the hole) and that’s why I can’t
tighten it. That and it’s super tight down there. Isn’t thee a way through
the fenderwell?

richpin06a says:

Sounds like the drive belt has lost tension and is possibly slipping.

matt says:

hi, why do you have to go through the wheel well? I have a 99 sl2 and isnt
the alternator right up top on the left under my hood?

ipodtouchfan says:

thats not too bad have you ever changed one on a GM W-body platform
(cutlass supreme, grand prix, lumina, monte carlo) with the 3.4 DOHC? uhave
to remove the axle it suuuucks

KimberleyBrookeXo says:

My fuseable link bolt is corroded on, what should i do?

richpin06a says:

@bcameron3 I have never worked on one that have the shield still there

richpin06a says:

It is normal for a cold engine to idle at 1200 rom when cold.

flyirwin says:

these videos are definitely going to help jog my memory on how this saturn
sl 4dr goes back together thanks.

Lamar Neucopia says:

I havean AC Voltage Detector. What wires do I check? And how do I check
them using this tool?

richpin06a says:

This video will cover all year SL2 and SL1 Saturns.

richpin06a says:

@downhoe I have never in my life even seen a Micra.

Brian Holt says:

@richpin06a You are so quick. Wow. Thanks for your supervision on that. Are
those items you listed relatively easy to test for?

BadBopco says:

Great Video!!! Unfortunately, once I got under the car, I spent at least an
hour trying to figure out what angle you shot it at??? I’m three hours into
the job and for the life of me, it is virtually impossible to find that
alternator top mounting bolt??? Mine is a 93 SL2 and at the moment, I’m
thinking you’ve got double jointed arms and fingers… I’ve been working on
cars all of my life. The Saturn is a True Nightmare!!!

youdragon says:

@ivanjacome it idles high so the engine will warm up faster

atlbest07 says:

would this work on a 04 saturn ion 2?
