My old ac compressor just stopped getting cold one day. Then I put some of that freon stuff that you get in a can into the system. It helped for literally a …

Ok. So I took the car to a shop and tested for leaks. They couldn’t find any, so they filled the system with freon and I went on my way. It worked well for about 2 weeks then went away again.

I took it to the same shop and they looked again for leaks. They found that the valves that under the caps (where you add freon) were shot and they replaced the valves and refilled the system again (for free).

Again it worked for about 2 weeks then went away.

Another handy video, thanks again. I’ve had my saturn SL1 for over nine years now and it’s a great car with minimal problems. Not to mention great on gas too.

Your system takes 1.5 lbs of r-134 not 10 lbs at that level the compressor would blow out in be internally damaged. There is a low pressure switch that keeps the compressor clutch from engaging:)

ThatAboutDoesIt says:

You need freon 😉

Rick Tieu says:

Well, Atleast needs 10LB of freon to run the system first and see if its cold if not buy like a brand new one aftermarket is ok like the good one not the bad one. Hope my suggestion helped out 😀

Mossb590A1 says:

Yep.. Compressor won’t turn on until there is freon in the system. Charge that mofo!

I’m doing AC work on 2 cars. Call me for advice (or text) (773) 236-2173

dsh390 says:

You can’t add refrigerant until you evacuate the entire system. Need a manifold gauge set and a vacuum pump to suck all the air and moisture out of the system. Then check if system can hold vacuum. And then add refrigerant. Have a shop do this. System won’t start with no refrigerant.

Where do I plug in to put the freeon in a 1998 Saturn?

I really need help

DAVE WAYNE says:

BTW your system WILL NOT run until the compressor has about 25 psi on the Freon charge. This saves your compressor from being damaged.

DAVE WAYNE says:

Go to Advance Auto. They have a can of R134a that has compressor oil in it. The can is 18 oz. and your system requires 18 oz. Part of this is oil so you may want to buy a can tap and a small can of the same refrigerant to top it off with. The only problem is if you changed out your compressor you have opened your lines and moisture and air have gotten inside. Grease Monkey can vac your system and refill it reasonably. Buy a manual and read up a little. It is about $15 bucks and saves you money.

I’m pretty sure the ac won’t even run without freon. Mine stopped when a rock put a hole in my condensor and all the freon leaked out

Omar Chisolm says:

Oh i forgot. Richpin06a have a video on how to trouble shoot the A/C for this car. just type it in the search box. He has madd videos on repairing these saturns. =D

Omar Chisolm says:

Mabee u need the fluid and oil to help the clutch engage. mabee it wont engage bone dry.
