I did find the replacement parts way cheaper on other sites though
thank you sir. this exact thing went out on my way home today. looks like an easy fix
My 98 Saturn Sl1 went out yesterday. Thanks for posting this video, I’m sure it will be a big help for me!
yea it was pretty much identical. video helped a ton though thanks a lot!
That is probably true; although the styling was updated for the year 2000 model, I don’t believe that anything to do with the gear shift would have changed.
soooooo much simpler than i thought it would be, i assume that the bushing for the 2000 sl1 would be installed similarly if not exactly to this one?
where do you get saturn parts i have a 97 saturn and i need to remove the play in the shifter but i dont know where to look for parts would greatly apreciate if you would help me out thanks

Thanks for commenting, Jerry!
Hi, All–SaturnBushingMan here! Thanks for this video, and thanks to all who support it. While I love a bargain as much as anyone, please know that an eBay seller in Florida has pirated my design and is now offering counterfeit copies of my bushing at cut-rate prices. I appreciate all those buyers who are ignoring him and continue to buy only from me and my family [SaturnBushingAnn and SaturnBushingHennie]. Happy Shifting! Jerry
this happened to me yesterday, and ive been driving stick for 2 weeks now.. glad i dident screw the clutch up haha, thank you for the video post
Great video, this was a big help. I was teaching my son to drive a stick when it broke and started flopping around. I was like “What the hell did you do ?”…..felt pretty bad when I realized it was just it’s time to break.
If you’re ever in the Des Moines area, give me a shout! I’m buying you a streak dinner! GREAT vid. Ty so much for posting this!! What an incredibly easy and CHEAP fix! Ty!!!!!!!!
Thank You very much for posting this, it was a huge help!
I bought mine on AWD Motorsports.
Awesome! Awesome! Awesome!
I literally almost shit myself earlier when my car went full retard in a grocery store parking lot. I got it home in 1st. gear. And the zip tie idea is awesome.
Full marks, 10/10. Just bought the part on eBay.
Thanks!
I’m having a similar problem almost but instead of that part messing up, the white piece on my saturn ’92 SL pops off everytime i shift more than 1 or 2 gears…so now it’s a nuisance to keep putting the little link back where it should be. I have to(while ebrake is on) put in neutral, put it in reverse and then park and it latches…im not sure what that part is exactly and i really need to know b/c im pretty sure saturn dealerships want a pretty penny 2 fix it….email me for anything more thnx
yeah same thing basically happened to me so now ive learned to always carry some zip ties around with me for when it happens again
i got over 190 on mine and it broke 2 times. once when my mom was driving it and the other was when i drove it. i got stuck at walmart. had to zip tie it to make it home haha
Thanks for the great video.
Is the teflon powder absolutely necessary to complete the installation?
Robert
That’s “closer” not “i loser”
@ponyboy920 perhaps you can push and pull on the cable some to get it to rotate back i loser to vertical.
I would have to see a photo or two. What I remember is that it moves both forward/backward and left/right, since there are two cables. I don’t have the car anymore so I can’t look at it. Maybe you can post a video showing what it’s doing.
Is there a reason that my shifter cable would be turned at a such a angle. The circle where I push the bushing in the circle is turn up and not sideways like yours is in the video. So when I try to turn it, I’m getting to much resistance to lock it on to the ball joint.
@ponyboy920 When it was back together there was some resistance, but when it was broken it just flopped around because it wasn’t connected to the cables at all.
Does your shifter cable has resistance in it? Mine has like a spring that is hard to twist. It looks like yours, just move with ease.
Great job @chicagirl51 glad the video was helpful.
Thanks for the video. I ordered the bushing from bushing man on ebay and installed it myself. I am a 57 year old woman and had no problems at all. No more bike riding to work for me!!!
Great vid. This just happened to me!
Thank you so much for this video. You saved us an amazing amount of $! My husband, who never works on the car was confident after viewing this that he could fix it himself. We didn’t have time to order a part on line but picked up a part at Napa. Highway robbery for what it cost, but at least we didn’t have to pay for labor or for the whole shift cable!!!! Bless You!!!
Great video, fixed my problem 100%. Everything was just as described. Along with the suggested video on removing the console, it was really really easy. Thanks for taking the time to create this video.
what about the cable how you fix that
