This is actually a 3.0L, I don’t think the CTS ever came with that engine, maybe someone else can weigh in with their experience on it though.

tr41l3rtr4sh says:

I have an 03 Cadillac CTS with the same engine. My problem is that cam 3 and 4 are off. How do I adjust them so they line up with the mark? Great video by the way!

FCP Euro says:

It should not move on the belt, but when aligning the belt to mount you can budge the gear accidentally. If you like we can send you the detailed instructions on how to install the belt on your model. Send the year and model of your car to miker@fcpeuro(dot)com and our tech Mike Rivera can help you out.

FCP Euro says:

I have a 2002 myself with about that mileage, they can be costly, #1 point of failure is the Direct Ignition cassettes and they’re not cheap. Also the V6 is one of the few with a timing belt, so at 164k you’ll probably be looking at that fairly soon. Hope that helps.

Theemechanicman says:

Does anyone know if it is normal for the timing marks on the belt to move even though the timing marks on the gears remain on point?

euonymus1980 says:

you guys are great!! Your one of the shops that show a ton of attention to detail! Keep the videos coming!!

Hi
There’s a used 2001 9-5 Griffin V6 turbo that i was looking at buying.
It’s got 164000 kms on it.
What should I look out for?
Would it be expensive to maintain?
Any other thoughts would be awesome!

God bless you for this perfect video

FCP Euro says:

A rattle could be any number of things. You might want to consider taking it to a shop for a diagnosis, even if you attempt the repair yourself. Sorry I could be of more help.

Michael Console says:

I have a 1997 Saab SC 2.0 turbo and its making a rattling sound, I cant locate it somewhere near the water pump? I tried to remove the water pump cant get it off ??cant find a manual anywhere. I see the same rattle on several YouTube videos. no one has the answers. please help

rollotwomassey says:

The quote I got was $3K because they said it was an engine-out job that took most of the day and they’d also replace the balance shaft chain as well as the oil pickup tube. But I can’t even get a straight answer from mechanics I bring it to as to whether or not they’re noisy. I hear “Yeah, they’re noisy.” “They’re a little noisy but not too bad.” and “That sounds like every Saab I’ve ever worked on.” So, maybe I’ll just wait until it snaps!

FCP Euro says:

The timing chain is certainly a different repair, but it doesn’t generally need replacing either. You’ll want to reach out to a specific garage for the change in price. I’d expect it to be more expensive, but maybe someone else can weigh in with their experiences.

rollotwomassey says:

Is it different for a timing chain change? This is not an engine-out job but I thought the timing chain as opposed to the belt was different. Does this affect the cost of the repair?

backwoodspizza says:

This is a very good video that shows working on cars is not magic and just takes time. I would have liked to see him use the cam locks before taking the belt off though.

montanez707 says:

Could you do a video on a Audi B6 platform timing belt change!? I would buy all my parts from you! Thank you very much!

Mike Nilsen says:

What a pleasure to watch a mecanic like Mike working. What a pitty, there are so few mecanics at his level.

FCP Euro says:

It really depends on whether your motor is interference or not, assuming it is turning over I would think you also has a timing chain allowing you to turn the motor over. But it really depends on the car, you’re probably best asking a local mechanic to have a look at it. Hope that helps!

raymon holton says:

if timming belt break but engine still turn over but wont start in the engine gone bad are can i still replace timming belt and car will run fine

drtjmpr197 says:

Just to add, I purchased a timing belt kit, which included: belt; idler pulleys (2); and the tensioner pulley. The tensioner pulley and the top idler pulley came already bolted on a replacement bracket that mounts to the motor. Also, I was able to remove the entire serpentine tensioner pulley bracket without having to remove the pulley first.

drtjmpr197 says:

This video saved me! This was the first time I’ve ever gone into the timing area of an engine. I was able to successfully install a new timing belt kit on our Saturn LS2 (same engine: L81). Thank you for such a clean and clear video.

Charlie Park says:

Finallly I can see a real proffessional person. Yes!

negril55 says:

Very good. Had to be long for novices like me

bgielen1 says:

You did the job professional, thank you!!

Roberto Bertulfo says:

many thanks, you are the champion!

paulvu66 says:

wow, changing timing belt on a fronty is always a pain in the neck. Front wheel off, support for the block, cramp space and wheel well shield off. Well, the mechanics won’t feel much pain when they give the owners the bill.
