Technically no. Just install it, start your car, press and hold AUTO and OFF to recalibrate the unit to your car. If you have a Saab indie mechanic nearby, he can use a Tech 2 scan tool to further calibrate the unit. It can be set to a hot or cold climate area (Texas vs. Maine), and also set the unit to remember the last used settings instead of defaulting to auto after startup. There’s a few other things a Tech 2 can do beyond user programmable options listed in your owners manual.

If I purchase a used unit, install it, does anything have to reset on the car’s system?

Quinn Lawrence says:

Can I retrofit the nav screen on a 9-5 without one?

Halvor Røyset says:

Next question is then: Where do I get the correct ribbon cable? And: How do I connect the cable to the LCD sincethis is not shown in the video?

Nathandm78 says:

The LCD is usually never the reason the display is not reading correctly, unless it’s physically damaged. The ribbon cable adhesive joining the contact points deteriorates over time is what causes the missing pixels. Replacing the cable certainly will cure this issue. And in some cases carefully reheating the original cable to the contact points will cure it, usually only a temporary or partial fix.

Halvor Røyset says:

Are you saying that when pixels are missing, it is normally just contact points on the ribbon bable that are just detoriated, i. e. re-soldering the cable will fix it? No new LCD or cable needed?

Nathandm78 says:

You’re welcome! And thanks! The ribbon doesn’t need to become separated, the connection can just deteriorate over time. Which is why I used the soldering iron to re-secure mine, and it seems to have worked! No more missing pixels on hot days.

Although the CCU in my 99 convertible is really different than yours, the technique is similar. I think the reason my backup CCU did not produce any display when i installed it was because i may not have properly secured the ribbon’s contact points, which you addressed with the sauldering press. Gonna disassemble and see if the ribbon did in fact become separated. Thak you for an excellent video!

Nathandm78 says:

What screen? The screen I worked on is the Auto Climate Control unit. SID is above the Radio/Nav unit.

crazysteezy says:

how did you get that screen instead of the sid?
