Mine was low and making whining noise. I topped off with fluid, purged the air, but the noise persisted. There is definitely leakage from the bottle to pump gasket, but the fluid appears to be clean inside the bottle free of engine oil. Do you think that replacing the seals and filling with new fluid will make the noise go away? Or is it a faulty pump? Power Steering seems to be working.
Where can i order parts thanks!!!
A most excellent video, thank you.
I'm watching because I have a 2010 9-3 with 178k miles, and the pump just puked out on the driveway. There's still assist when turning but it's like it's low on fluid, which obviously it is. So I'm guessing the pump's otherwise ok and it's time for a gasket set.
Any idea if the procedure is much different for a 2010?
Thanks for the video. I just picked up the kit and this video made it clear that it's not a complex job. Tons of $$ saved!
Nice info, thanks! I was just going to ask about flushing the system to get rid of the engine oil contamination when I noticed a reply to a comment below that addresses it 🙂
The Saab 9-3 owners manual specifically says to use CHF 11S (P/N 8996860).
It also says to use GM Power Steering Fluid to top uP^ in an emergency.
So you are 100% correct.
Great video…

Great job.
I have a power steering leak on my 06 saab 93 but how do I know if my power steering pump is not need to be replaced with a new one?
Thank u.
Is the aftermarket gasket for the lid just a normal rubber O-ring?
awesome video, just done mine, unfortunately ran out of replacement fluid but so far so good. Without your video i wouldnt have a clue! Do you have to bleed the system once refilled?
Hey Jacob! How are the aftermarket seals? Want to do the same on my car but debating on wether to go with the set or go with genuine. Keep up the good work!
Those o-rings sometimes get stuck inside the fuel rail when your'e taking them out. And yes the o rings have to be there. Put a bit of motor oil on the rings when you're installing them in the car, don't install the o-rings dry, they will likely leak.
If I buy a new pump, does all those seals come standard with a new pump?
I saw ur video n i bought the essab seals. Tomorrow i should finish it.
does anyone know where i can buy rebuild kits for the hydrophilic pistons for the convertible top 2004
Great video, have a can of carb cleaner handy for quick clean.
Nice! Definitely a matter of when, not if, with these leaking.
Did you put the Bent metal ring back under that cap? It is a spring tensioner to keep the cap snugly locked in place.
New O-rings recommended on those X injectors. They are cheap insurance, since they are right down in the cooking bowl under the intake and some are near the nuke plant too. might want to send the injectors off to be cleaned and flow tested, if they sat a long time or never have been. Fun projects!
The chf is citroen suspension mineral oil . The power steering takes full synthetic hydraulic oil for vw . Its much better and way cheaper
The brown one is a seal , not an oring . You have to lube it up before hammering it in . Next time use a socket to hammer it evenly
That's exactly what I have to do on mine. Changing seals is the first thing to do since regenerating or buying a new steeringpump is expensive. Let me know what mileage your ride has and if the unit works well now. Thanks for the video, it's so detailed it encouraged me to do this job on my own.
