Amazing tip, thank you!!
BTW i have 9-5 06 saab same key fob!
Excellent tip thanks
Awesome!
Very helpful, thank you!
Thanks for your help and the video.
I also found a link by searching google for saab key battery to a site called serioussaab dot co dot uk
is useful – has info about other Saab key fobs and battery sizes.
I used a small screwdriver to press in the hole and levered the cover off, but you got me doing the right thing.
So easy and so great… Thanks.
thank you!!! corkscrew is the answer!!!
i stabbed my self in the hand. Any DIY videos to apply a plaster?
Perfect! Thank you!
YOU ROCK!!!! Thank you so much for this video!!!! Genius!!!
This technique worked perfectly. My ’06 9-5 has the same key fob. Thanks for the video!
Great post, thanks!
Never used the cork screw on my swiss army knife for anything else but this worked like a charm! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you - so simple and easy, I just needed the know-how!
Before you get another key case, what I will suggest is that drill a tiny hole in the corner of the key near the broken plastic and place a TINY key ring in the new hole. Make sure you DO NOT drill through the chip, etc!!!
I will update you latter for full replacement.
The part of my plastic fob that hooks on a key ring has broken off. Any idea how to fit a new case? Cheers.
Thank you!! Display in car has been telling me to “replace key battery”, but I had no idea how to get it out…now I do!!
you sir, are the fucking man
You, sir, are a genius. Steve Jobs would have been proud of you. Thanks.
you are welcome. Ask me for more DIYs, will be happy to help
Having already tried a paperclip, I very much appreciate your posting of this video. Thank you very much!
Thank you thats great !
Excellent! Thank you so much!
And, you hit the nail right on its head with your comments as to why Saab, in its infinite wisdom and customer user-friendliness …. would design such an idiosyncratic key fob — which is part of the reason why Saab has been on life-support. Thanks for the validation on this Swedish drunk-in-the-sauna engineering-head-fake, Skip.
Skip, you are, Sir, an intrepid genius and a HERO. Thank you so much. It’s the Fourth of July weekend and, needless to say, this funky key situation began Friday evening, just after business hours (and five automotive types at three places, not Saab, could not figure it out Saturday). My holiday weekend may be recouped. Headin’ for the corkscrews pronto. And I’ll need a drink after this Swedish meatball situation.
Wow. I came on here in utter frustration and your video has saved me loosing my hair. Thank You.
Thank you!
That is simply genius and worked first time, thank you
I fought my key with a paperclip for hours! This is an ingenious trick. Thanks for posting!
thanks
Thank You Sir. Call me if need further help
You smashing chap! I’ve been fiddling all morning…
thanks for watching and commenting. i used a cock screw from a small swiss knife which perfectly fitted. your screw might have been bigger.
regards
syed
I have a 2006 Saab 9-5 and the key is exactly the same. I tried a corkscrew, but it did not work. I had a digital multimeter laying around, and I tried one of the probes, and it easily popped it open. For those less tech-savy than I, it is simply a sharp thin round piesce of metal, but it is thicker than a needle. A thick needle, and awl should also work. Great video though, I thought that was a screw hole.
Very good video. It should also be disclosed that you damage the key case this way and another video should be used to demostrate how to put the new battery in.
Thank you, i don’t know why they would make so difficult though
Thanks! It took me three different corkscrews to find one that was big enough, but it popped right open!
