Yep, I understand that SOME European manufacturers use a single rear fog light. The Jaguar I owned right before I bought this car used two, so not all European cars use a single rear fog.
I’m not sure why Europeans would be any more “expert” than Americans on this issue, and I’m not sure why it’s a bad thing for the driver behind you to think you have on your brakes. That will keep them from getting too close. Plus, when you apply the “real” brakes they will know the difference.
The use of a single DS rear fog light by manufacturers is by design; to reduce likelihood of other traffic assuming you have the brake lights on; important in particular when leaving a heavy fog/torrential rain, brushfire smoke situation. Twin rear fog install is ‘okay’ for large trucks, trailers etc. it’s the Euro makes that utilise a single DS rear fog, and that market is the expert region for the function.
