2004 Saab 9-3 stereo not working cheap/easy repair

This is a cheap easy fix to fix the common problem of amp1 under driver seat that stops working which makes your stereo not work. I would consider this more of a temporary fix till you either can get your amp repaired or buy a new one BUT it will work like this as long as you need it to!

I'm trying to fit door speaker to a 4 speaker crappy system on a 2003 93 so I can go after market in the CD tray leaving the Saab system for warning and indicator noises only because that,s all the 4 speaker system is good for.
But I cant find any amp wiring ive looked under the seat I took the kick panel of the the left hand foot well as I was trying to trace the wires in the door.
I found the big plug up by the mirrorin the door which looks like a power cable with red and blue wires think the proper saab speaker plug into that? behind the kick panel are 2 large looms and a very large connector and two loose fiber optic cables all I need to know is where the other end of those wires for the doors are so I splice in can route them to the new stereo once I can find this I have everything else ready to go.
my fiber optic is looped and the cd player removed I'm going to get the power from the cigar lighter and the perm from the old CD player connector I will take the rear speakers from the original saab radio plug as I have already swapped the cable at the other end to 2 6x9s so no point trying to run cables up there rather than mess about with antenna adapters Ive brought a power hidden antenna and run a draw wire up to the center speaker position to feed the cable for the GPS antenna if I cant find them I'll run new cable in myself old skool and drill the door and feed it in the side of the cable boot in the door shut but it a PITA so would be easier and neater to find the cables that saab prewired.
So can anyone help?

do you have an amp in the back trunk on the driver side..

diego sanchez says:

How did you connect the two orange wires.. because I did that & it still doesn't work..

Bret Long says:

no problem glad it helped

kalle radmark says:

thanks for The video! i have sound now and will order amp1. thanks again from sweden.

Bret Long says:

the original purpose of the amp is it improves the quality of the sound of the stereo system. so bypassing the amp does take away from the sound quality of the stereo system, but it sure beats having no stereo at all

Bret Long says:

this will work on any year that has the amp under the driver seat, and has the orange fiber optic line going in and back out of amp. and as one of the people who commented, yes this isn't a perfect fix, But it will least get you some music again and the turn signal noise again, the music won't sound as great as it will loose some of its quality not using the amp, but it sure beats having no music at all, I did this fix many months ago and I'm more than happy with it just like this

Ramon Salazar says:

You just saved me about $300 dollars that I was going to spend on a new amp, Thank you!! Radio works perfect now.

Roger Sevearance says:

will that wprk on a 05

Igor Trkulja says:

This worked perfectly for me. Removed the AMP1, then smaller connector for fiber optics inside the larger connector for the amp, and connected the optic fiber cables with a small black tube. Needed some additional strengthening with tape, though, because cables are a bit stiff and shouldn't be twisted to much.

The downside is that you'll lose door speakers, until you buy a replacement amp. If you buy a bypassed amp, also no sound in the door speakers. Just a memo. 🙂

Here are some images that helped me to unhook the cables:

@moneyhungryyt
You don't need to remove the seat. Just unscrew two screws so you can raise the rails with the seat and put something underneath to hold it for you. But you'll have to lay on the backseats. 😀

All the best! 🙂
