If you own a Boxster, it is ESSENTIAL you watch this to learn about a trick you can do if you are ever left stranded on the side of the road with a Boxster than is spewing out white smoke like crazy.
One part that often fails is the oil separator. This is one of the first things you should look at before having a shop repair something much more severe. This is not the ONLY thing that could cause white smoke so treat this as a POSSIBLE solution, not something that is guaranteed to work 100%.

Pro tip: *edit 6/15/2016* After installing it was leaking and I was puzzled. Turns out the accordion-like boot thing at the bottom of the oil separator was not seated perfectly. Before you tighten, and I know this will be hard to do, feel around the boot to make sure it is seated properly BEFORE tightening it. If its not seated, it goes to say it will leak. .

A friend helped me change mine out as a precaution at 65k miles cause this is a known failure point. I'll prob change it again in another 65k. Good to see you fixed it on your own. Honest repair shops are hard to come by.
How much of suction is normal? For me it's hard to tell if it's not too much… It sucks and I can feel it with my hand. Is this already a good reason to replace the AOS?

Great video…I have a 1998 and just found out my AOS is failing…until I get it fixed in two weeks is it OK to drive, or should it sit without use until then? Apologies for the question…thanks
Did you have o rings at each end of the vacuum pipes? they are shown in the Porsche diagrams but I have never seen them in any vid clip, and my S did not have them when I changed the AOS.
What is the name of the repair shop you went to that wanted $5K? We need to know these things . . .
White smoke is not burning oil. Burning oil gives blue smoke. Burning fuel gives black smoke and burning water gives white smoke.
Thanks for detailing how it works, I will be needing one I have white smoke now and then. I saw on EBAY some one selling just the diaphragm for one is it possible to repair this part?
