@2610buck I needed some 200 hours for the job. But of course I work much
slower than a professional and I spent a lot of time producing the specific
tools.
@batlin I am a private and I do such works for pleasure. Nevertheless a
workshop would have asked about 7000 Euro including an exchange head. The
total work have been about 200 hours. A lot of people in Germany are payed
less than 35 Euros an hour.
If you are looking for the 16 valve engine, the plastic rails for the
timing chain are really the crucial point. My chain broke just after I had
bought the car
No, the S2 is okay. The engine has an expected lifetime of over 400000 km.
But Porsche made a big error not to include the timing chain in the
maintainance schedule.
you guys never heard of coolant on the miller! not taking anything away
from your skills …the ‘device’ would be called a ‘Pattern’ or Template in
Eglish Ja!
would you buy another? I am in 2 minds, I think that any car needs to be
maintained so it will require a little more than a Ford Focus however I
love the shape and the pedigree. I have a friend who drives an Alvis
everyday, he is always changing the oil and tinkering but it has yet to let
him down…after 60 years!
Thanks! It is always difficult to find the right words in a foreign
language. And for the correct German word, I couldn’t find a translation in
dictionary that time.
@tempest411 I payed for the welding 50 Euros, the rest was my hobby. I do
not believe that I get an S2 head including the shipping to Europe for this
price. Usually S2 heads are rare, the broken timing chains a a common
problem.
@BigBadTurboM3 That is the difference. I was looking over weeks for new
valves but I found no offer fr less than $50 each! And a used head was much
higher in price as the $300 you paid, Congratulations!
Totally amazing work and dedication! The time you put in on this is
probably worth more than the cost of a new engine, but it’s great that you
did this and I envy your skills!
@irina25661 : I just bought a used head for my 1990 s2 cabriolet for $300.
I spent $350 more on new valves, seals, guides, tentioners, etc. i would
never buy one from Porsche. Of course its that expensive from them. But it
doesnt have to be and that was alot of work you had to do. But still
congrats on hard work done!

Did you try getting a used head or even just parts from the United States?
They are much less expensive there. No VAT!

A spare head from Porsche for the S2 is over 4000 Euro plus 1000 Euro for
the camshafts not included.
haha! you are very welcome my friend I am considering buying my first 944
and this has been a very educational video.

Are the welds still holding up?

Now you’ll understand why the head is repaired and not exchanged by a new
one.
I can buy a 944 with that money,about 6 to 8 g’s in good condition!
Thats a 944 s2 right? How much does the cylinder head cost? The s2 has a
3.0l engine
@2610buck Yes, meanwhile I run it for 15000 km in 15 months. No further
problem.
