Iā€™m at the same stage with my build. Going to do timing today. Take in mind that if you are using the torque book, it might have incorrect information regarding the intake camshaft bolt. It should be 50 Nm and 110* and not 30 Nm and 90* as the book says.

Guess I'm 1st in the comments: (1) for the intake lifter buckets, take your fingernail and see if it catches on them and if it does then replace them. (2) Replace the parts behind the camshaft timing adjuster, due to oil the pressure can be effected, due to wear, causing potential timing fluctuations. The intake camshaft has variable lift and oil pressure regulated by the DME and the solenoid does the switching to the other cam lobe as need be. This allows the cams to be quite mild @ idle and low RPM's and then kick butt as required, unlike it used to be mild or wild. The lifter carrier gets the wear in those slots from the pressure rocking the buckets as the camshaft rotates and that pattern cause some binding. The Variocam adjusters have multiple chambers in them and paddles which fill and empty oil as required for advancing/retarding timing. The cam caps are align bored in the heads, just like the engine case halves. Hope this helps you out.
