Just fitted my shifter and cables, having a problem with second gear really sticky.

deep6this deep6this says:

most importantly, this is a cayman with the BOSE stereo option. that is why the passenger's side footwell contains a huge BOSE sub-woofer unit that needs to be removed in order to expose a screw or two. i suspect that if the BOSE option is not present the screws may be exposed earlier in the process.

it should be noted that if the top most hole in the shift rod is used (shortest shifting position) cutting the carpet may not be necessary. it wasn't on my cayman (2007 2.7l) base model.

those two metal clips that they popped out and involved makeshift usage of the torx bit and a magnet? well, they will become exposed as a matter of course if the front of the console is disassembled first. it will become evident when removing the long u-shaped metal trim (it's acutally two pieces) strip that blocks the shifter surround piece that covers them. evident upon re-assembly. IOW, start at the front, under the dash and work backwards (for the most part) from the way the video portrays dis-assembly.

ya, it works the way it's shown, afterall that's how i did it… 🙂

David Siegel says:

My ‘new to me’ 2007 Boxster (2.7) with just about 100k will have to get this soon. I guess I need a challenge and this may be it.

Jeffrey Salzman says:

Certainly some nice insurance for that potential stranding due to broken shift cables. That shifting assembly looks so cool I'll be tempted to leave the boot off the shifter when I do this upgrade.

Timothy Lindsay says:

Great video…convinced me to have my shop, Rob @ Abacus Racing, Virginia Beach, do the install. They did a great job, 5 hours.
The kit is superb. Special Thanks to John Gaydos at Soul PP and the folks at Numeric for a sublime product.

Stephen Auty says:

Top video fellas..really well explained

Dan DeLuca says:

Excellent diy video. Keep this posted cause im sure my 987 boxster cables will go one day and ill need this video to reference. Thanks!!

Troy Salas says:

Getting closer and closer to doing this too guys!

david Zawistowski says:

I not a big car fix-it guy but I just changed out for a Numeric shifter and cables, 3 hours to take everything apart and 4 to put everything back. the most difficult part was the driver side connection on the transmission, it's just hard to see and get to. Great videos from norcal987 I like your style…thanks

Ram Vennam says:

Is there a clip that needs to be engaged to remove the cable from the bracket on the transmission side, or is it supposed to just slide off?

M T says:

Hi there, I've got a Cayman R I am in UK and just bought the short shift kit- i've had all sorts of issues with getting them to UK but finally they're being shipped out today BUT- they tell me that they can't find the wrench – i've asked D Wray who mentions your video too in his but both of you talk about the wrench i just wondered if I absolutely had to try and find a wrench to use on this elsewhere like a bike shop or something I could maybe find one. Do you know the wrench size ? Any help would be amazing!

Jerms DNA says:

nice work. I think I need this done to my boxster. it's feeling extra loose

vizi0123 says:

Wow you guys should do more videos on the Cayman. Very detailed love it!!!!! Like maybe coil overs!!!

MrSlowestD16 says:

Def. a bit pricey, but you definitely get a nice result with the numeric setup.

James Holloway says:

"We will get to cuss our way through this one" finally truth in advertising.

Alex Cassinelli says:

Incredibly helpful video guys! Thanks so much. One word of advice: At 9:00 removing of the side black panels is discussed. If you tilt the bottom of the panels out first or too far you may crack one of the 3 plastic support tabs. The path of removal should really be straight back toward the rear of the car. Of the 3 tabs the top ones (as seen at 8:50) do like to hang up. I was able to use a plastic trim tool to help pry out the right and left panels as I pulled backward. Thanks again.

sahspider says:

Thanks guys for posting. Definitely help for when I did mine. To help out with the job I removed the PAX seat. I did start the car without the electrical cable attached so ended up setting off the airbag light you mentioned. I was able to reset with my Foxwell OBD tool

J Mullner says:

I finished this project today on my own and I owe it to this video and your help Michael

A minor hiccup I ran into was with reinstalling my handbrake. I made the mistake of not engaging the handbrake before disassembling everything so reattaching the ebrake cable was difficult because I didn’t have much slack in the lines to be able to move the assembly forward enough into its correct position. If anyone runs into this, just depress the handbrake as far down as possible and this will relieve any tension in the spring and will allow you to get enough reach from the ebrake cables to be able to slide the handbrake assembly forward enough to its mounting point

童年小巷 says:

Where did you get the alcantara shift lever and boot cover ? I want one !

Daniel Geberth says:

Hey this is Dan at Numeric Racing. Great install video one of my customers told me about. John Gaydos to be exact. I'm going to put it on the website if that is OK with you. Let me know and really nice job.

Jay Persaud says:

nice work thanks for posting this will attempt this on a 997 soon.

Clint Hightower says:

Good job guys, I enjoyed watching you guys struggle lol you make it easier for me lol Thank you!

Clint Hightower says:

Should have pulled a string when you removed the old cable then use the string to help pull the new cable.

Clint Hightower says:

A better tool for getting at those emergency brake mount nuts is and L-shapped spanner socket wrench. It will make that portion of the job a lot easier. here is an example: https://www.ebay.com/itm/8mm-22mm-Metric-L-Shaped-Angled-Open-Hex-6-point-Socket-Wrench/273771382476?hash=item3fbe0bc6cc:m:mm6GOseYe1oC2dDTAI6MlRQ

John Gaydos says:

Guess who broke his factory shifter cables and is using your installation video to install my numeric cables ; )
