great video- can you please tell me what size hole the seal driver should be so i can try to make one-thanks

Van Svenson says:

The oil drive gear is what contacts the inside of the seal. So you want to put the seal in first, then slide the oil drive gear into it.

great video-need to change the front seal after prolonged sitting when I spun a timing belt -seals get old and dry up and crack-so does the seal go behind the oil drive gear ? not quit clear on that one

Van, i rebuilt my 944 turbo a few months ago seemed fine and then my power steering support housing front leg broke off. got a replacement support and went to put it on then noticed the old one had a 1/16 to 1/8 deep gouge in it. put the new one on and the lower balance shaft will barely turn the top one turns easy. Have any suggestions! Thanks Len

Thanks a bunch ! Will follow your advice.

Van Svenson says:

It could be one of several things: cracked oil pickup tube, front crankshaft bolt not tight, oil pressure relief valve stuck open… start by checking those.

Can I ask u a simple question , Sir . My oil pump is not working and i hear engine rattle. I removed the filter and cranked the engine without ignition and it does not throw out oil from the filter hole.Do I need to change the pump or is there something else ?

I am rebuilding a 944S (16v) but I dont have the means to make a seal driver… can I buy one from you?

matthew mccrorey says:

I think I warped or bent the end of my crankshaft trying to get the gears off. The oil pump gear/sleeve slides down the shaft part way and then seizes up a few mm before the edge. I removed the burrs with emery cloth that I had made trying to get the key out, but I think my crowbar-ing the gears against the shaft really did it. Is it possible? I know that sleeve is supposed to just slide right off.

I took my crank timing gear off and it was on with the flange out. I don’t see how to put it on it could go on with the flange in as it hits the back timing cover. This link shows it with the flange out.

I have a 1979 Posche 928 (don’t know if it runs) and a 1983 Porsche 944 that last time I checked does run but needs extensive interior/electrical work. Where could I go here in SoCal to find a place that will put these back together again?

Your videos are so helpful! Thanks for taking the time to record you work. I have had to learn most of this myself, the hard way, without the videos, but its still nice to see how others do it!
