Off – because you adjust it so the wheel still spins.

Christopher Wessing says:

Should the parking brake be “on” or “off” while performing this adjustment? Thanks!

If I forget to adjust the parking break will that cause the loud squeaking I’m getting right now when I’m driving?

Alot of newer Porsches use wheel bolts rather than studs, makes it a little more difficult for wheel changes.

I’m 21, not a professional. And even I noticed that booboo ^ don’t let it hang like that. But still the video was informational.

grt vid, though ive just experienced a strange one. MOT failure for the handbrake / parking brake. Went to adjust, all pads and shoes all good as I replaced them recently, however with the caliper off the brake disc rotates by hand, tighten the caliper back up and I cant move the wheel. This is even when the pads are still pushed out. !!???? Bizarre ??

This helped me a lot, its the same for BMW e39

preprodigy says:

where are the wheel studs????

Timathy Ploof says:

um, arent you supposed to support the caliper so it doesnt possibly crack the line hanging like that?

derbydog07 says:

Two questions. 1 – Why leave so much drag on the parking brake? Won’t that prematurely wear the shoes? And two, I know you have a 951, is the parking brake setup the same on your 911 and your 951? I ask because I need to adjust the paring brake on my 944 2nd gen. Thanks. Good vid.

2 comments – first, when you are adjusting the parking brake, is the handle on the parking brake pulled all the way up, or not pulled at all? second, it would be great to see a video on a brake fluid flush on the 996 brakes. thanks!

Kurt Bang Tidy says:

I’m glad to hear this :- ) good video, was very helpful

Kurt Bang Tidy says:

You’ve totally left the brake caliper hanging by the brake fluid hose, this is mental, you’ve put excessive stress on the hose for no reason, that’s now put a risk of damage to the hose that’s not visible, risk of brake failure in the future… The caliper should be supported at all times when it’s off the disc usually by some kind of cables or string holding it…
