Am I the only woman watching this tutorial to learn how to change the
transmission fluid? lol anyway, thank you so much for sharing this
information! it will help me a lot as I am trying to do it myself.

Guillaume Landry says:

Nice Job but why you don’t use drain plug ?Nice turorial anyway !

Parker4321 says:

Why didn’t you drain the oil out first Einstein?

C Smith says:

would it be the same directions if the matrix is a manual transmission? tu

rajah155 says:

Nice video. Why didn’t you drain the tranny fluid from the central plug
first, before removing the pan? Less mess!

Chris Myers says:

Great vid! Thanks for posting. Great lighting, audio, and Info.

Doug Thompson says:

You knew what you were doing! I just recently changed my trans fluid and
filter. I had to drop the pan — twice! The first time I put the pan back
on, the gasket wouldn’t stay put and I had a slight leak. So I had to drop
the pan again today, clean out the pan, and position bolts in the holes
across the pan prior to installing the gasket — much better results! I
did replace the filter the first time, and double checked my installation
afterwards. After this trans flush, I won’t be needing to service my trans
anytime soon! Also I won’t be using the drain plug anymore.

Cj Karcher says:

My wife has a 2009 vibe. I checked the trans fluid on it about a month ago
while doing oil change and noticed that it was rather dark. The car has 80k
on it and so its probably do anyway. With this low millage should I do
fluid and filter or could I get away with just doing the fluid?

Terry Smith says:

thanks for taking the time to do this. I just bought a 2008 vibe with 91k
miles..from my research on it, going to be a reliable car for a long time.

Jacob Campbell says:

Great video. Thanks for creating and sharing

Make sure you have an extension for your ratchet that fits a 10 when
loosening the tranny pan, otherwise there will be one bolt you can’t get
out

Winjury says:

there is a reason why its “illegal” to go by fluid color. Transmission
fluid is a detergent. if you run brand new fluid for 30 mins in your car,
it will look “brownish” if you check it after that because of the chemical
makeup of the fluid. Going off fluid color holds no value at all.

MPBrewster says:

Very good quality video with excellent audio. My Haynes manual also says
3.2 quarts to fill but the volume you state in the video must be for a dump
and fill from the plug, not dropping the pan. I measured well over 4 qts
out so I put 4 qts back in. After checking level I found I needed to add an
additional 5 ounces. (see 136dogs2 comment below) I used T-IV fluid which
the Toyota dealer was selling for $5.95/qt. Beat Amazon surprisingly, even
with Prime free shipping.

Michael Fuston says:

good job on the video make one with the tranny change were the pan on the
side of the trans that were im having trouble how to remove and change
filter and fluid thanks

SuperDagod1 says:

How many miles can you get on the vibe or the matrix. I was thinking about
buying a backup vehicle and one of these looks good. My kids can get in the
back easy and it gets good gas mileage. It would be a backup to my jeep
which I want to get to 300K

Taxminia0311 says:

Dude, I have to do this exact job to my 2003 Toyota Matrix and I’m dreading
it, but if I don’t do it who will except my Toyota Mechanic ergo wants to
charge me an arm and a leg, which me luck cause I’m going to need it.

CsFF4U says:

How much oil will remain in the Torque Converter? Or does this get all of
the oil out of the transmission>?

Don May says:

i have a 07 vibe it has been the best car i ever owned . i also have a 09
dodge journey pure junk .

Fred Lyst says:

I would change it, the Vibe Matrix owners manual says to change
transmission fluid every 60k miles or 45k if you tow. Might get by with
just changing fluid, but at your mileage dropping the pan will allow better
assessment of the transmission. Inspecting any part of the car can never
hurt, may provide insight into future maintenance / repairs.

Fred Lyst says:

Even dropping the pan and filter its not a complete change, oil remains in
the torque converter, internal plumbing, and if equipped oil cooler. Unlike
the engine were oil pools in the crankcase, the transmission has lots of
places that keep fluid form draining all the way back to the pan.

Fred Lyst says:

If you are getting a code related to the transmission, its hard to say what
might be the cause. Changing the filter and fluid would allow you to see
the bottom of the transmission. Aside from that I would take it to someone
who would be able to better diagnose the code you are getting.

Dthunderchicken says:

Thanks. I was just curious. BTW B&M makes aftermarket drain plugs. I put
them on anything the doesn’t have a plug.

Jay Cee says:

I have the exact same car, exact mileage and similar scenario as a 2nd
owner. transmission fluid was changed at 60,000 and hasnt been since. Now
it has 182k. I’ve never had any trouble whatsoever. I have been told by
numerous mechanics not to change it. It would cause more damage than help.
that is what I decided to do. I checked the fluid and it is still red and
does not smell. It has never leaked a drop either. Should I change it?
Thoughts? Would love to hear from the OP.

Fred Lyst says:

Have not had that issue. Would suggest visiting genvibe.com and posting
issue, someone on the site may have a possible solution. From what I have
read, it could be anything from valve, piston wear, plug issue etc. The
sound of air leaking would also include the possibility that the intake
manifold has a crack or gasket issue allowing air to enter the cylinder
without passing through the Mass Air Flow sensor.

CsFF4U says:

Thank you for the answer, and this is what I found to happen as well.
