Pontiac G6 Front Speaker Installation

Pontiac G6 Front Speaker Installation

How to install the front door speaker on a Pontiac G6. Mine is a 2008 G6 but i believe most years are the same. Be sure not to destroy the factory speaker once removed as you will need most of it to mount the replacement speaker. Be sure to check with crutchfield in the link below or amazon to see if the speaker you want to install will fit. The G6 requires a speaker that is not very deep, in my case a Polk Slimline Speaker.

Thanks man! I got a monsoon speaker system in my g6 and the same speaker went out, but i got 3 speakers on 1 door. I bet when i replace my 2 bigger ones, its gonna sound SWEET! I love my car.

Nickel Fritz says:

How did you wire it? I noticed there's a harness that doesn't fit the new speaker. Do you just cut it off? If so what do you do with the four wires when the new speaker only needs 2?

Bluraz says:

When I changed the front speakers in my 08 G6, the driver side speaker housing was different with 4 screws holding the speaker in it. So I was able to easily change it as it was a direct fit with my new one.

The passenger side however, the housing and speaker were one so I had to modify. I took some shears and just cut around it then forced screws into the plastic. Worked out quite well.

John Kruglinski says:

Thanks so much! Did this on my Aura, the doors are slightly different but the speakers are identical. I ordered new frames and they didn't fit the speaker or the door. I used your idea of cutting out the speaker. I didn't trim the lip around the edge and the speaker fit perfectly in the door. Drilled two pilot holes, secured it and put it back together. I bought cheap Kenwoods as replacements and I found they fit fine like this. Not having speakers work is maddening. I appreciate your sharing these tips.

K Jay Medina says:

i didn't see crap about the wiring. On my 06 G6 GTP the rear speaker wires have like 90000 different colored wires don't really know why or what or how.

Alex Jezuit says:

just attempted this on my coupe but purchased some speaker mounting adapters. turns out the sedan and coupe models have different brackets…

DeathK says:

Awesome video! Procedure worked great.

A Mat says:

JT griffin says:

I wasn't talking about changing the impedance,I was asking where the tweeters are separate from for speakers I was wondering if they both were 8ohm so was 4 for the front once both hooked, and for the front driver side and rear passenger side they both kinda sizzled out at same time so I don't know if something burned out happened when was at full stop and never came back …I was cranking lot that day on hoti day, so I'm thinking out burned the stereo, but left for front right rear just don't make sense to me why out would be like that,I want to thank you for everything I asked you… think stereo has burned just makes no sense 2 opposite sides

JT griffin says:

my g6 has 6 speakers did you just by pass the tweeters that's by the mirrors

Gretchen Keehn says:

I can see the difference between new and old

Jmash666 says:

Noticing, you reused the original wiring to the speaker (minus the OEM connector) do you still have sound from your pillar speaker (the tweeter ontthe inside from the mirror.)

Dave0755 says:

Thanks for the video. My son's g6 blew out the front speakers. I really appreciate you showing the how to video. It will help us in our replacement project.

Nathan Caggiano says:

Do you have the monsoon system, I just got mine used and it just has the factory stereo

Nanology 101 says:

Does your car have the monsoon system? I have an 06 g6 gtp coupe with monsoon system (amp) and want to replace the door speakers and 6×9's. Did you use the OEM speaker wire? Head Unit? Do you think I'd be good with just replacing the speakers and installing head unit without any issues, thanks!

Christopher Orlik says:

Your video saved me so much time and frustration. The Pontiac g6 was not made to be fixed for some reason. My machanic hates it when I bring this car into his shop. A simple job requires taking the car apart and repurposing old parts. It's terrible.

Elvin Corey says:

How many watts are those speakers?

jer barr says:

You needed to reuse the factory foam insulator to get the midbass into the interior.

Hanne Lambert says:

Yt! You're A Naturan. buzz question What do you think3.. !!!

enrique hernan says:

lol I use a blue tooth speaker

bodr1 says:

Nice vid, thanks for the upload… My speakers crapped out. They barely have any sound coming out of them. Going to throw some pioneers in just so I can listen to tunes again..

Tammy Faye says:

do you have a video for the passenger side?

Navabro says:

Thank you buddy I appreciate the informative videos! I am going to be doing this on front and back sometime today!

Haseeb Habibi says:

How do I remove the original wires? Do I take off the little gray tab that's there and then pull the wires?

Anthony Racicotporzio says:

You were a huge help when it came to which wires were positive and negative. Just did the driver side today doing passenger side tomorrow thanks for the help
