Worked a treat, just like you said.
Many thanks!

John F says:

My 08 G5 GT was doing the brake light issue and cruise as well. I did the grease trick and it worked but now when I turn my radio on sometimes the speakers in back make strange noises momentarily.

kristivinkle says:

Gabby, I’m Sarah and I’VE GOT IT! I too tried this a couple of months ago, and no go. So, I thought I would try to buy the body computer if that’s what it’s even called and found that the wires don’t just unplug so I thought I was back to facing a repair at the shop that I can’t afford and back to square 1. So, this is what I did on a fluke. I had the car running and unplugged the “body computer”. The car died, and I thought OK that controls a lot. So, I removed the key, put it back.now works!

Brandon Caudle says:

As simple as it sounds it works! Thanks for the post, it made my day. Give it a try, it saved me time and money. The switch alone is $75. Worth trying before u spend a lot of cash or take it to the dealer. If u go to the Pontiac wedsite there is a recall for this issue being investigated. Keep your eyes open for possible recall on this if this simple fix does not work. This is the same thing a dealer will do to u car. Do it yourself, save the cash!

Aneta Hamster says:

it worked for me …thank u ..just bough a car from a dealer a 2007 maibu lt and notice the brake lights stay on when im driving and go off when I pushed the brakes …first I tried the one that u showed it did not work so I moved on to the next one J2 and it worked all I had to do is take it out and put in again …thank u very much without that they would probly make me change the computer and pay a lot of $

Tito Arizpe says:

I tried the dielectric grease too but no luck. Took it to a certified GM mechanic and paid 490 to get the BCU replaced and fixed the problem. The good news is that we are closer to getting this recalled. Check the news “Regulators move closer to Pontiac G6 recall”

Thanks for posting this helpful video.

jglenn001 says:

Worked for me, I used electrical contact cleaner to clean out the contacts, then applied the dielectric grease to them

kneckter says:

For me, it was the fact that everytime I drive at night, everything behind me would light up red and I could see it in my mirrors.

Brian Hnatt says:

That worked for me. TY.

tz8gz2 says:

Wow thanks for posting that! Exactly what was going on with my 2007 G6. Thanks again!

James Mathias says:

I have the same problem, gonna try this fix tomorrow. But the way to tell if its happening, is your cruise wont work. Press the brakes then right after hit the cruise. The cruise will engage for a few seconds then kick off. Really hope this works for me.

Brent Spence says:

Robert Trevino I’m having the very same issue on my wife’s g

Gary Angelo says:

Ok, I read more on the net. I disconnected the negative battery terminal then disconnected and reconnected the BCM plug several times. It appears to be working correctly now. Will return and add comment if the problem comes back. Good luck everybody.

Gary Angelo says:

Same problem, grease didn’t help. Dang it! Thanks for the video though.

Andre Ramos says:

I got a 2003 Mazda Protege, have kind the same problem.. My lower brake lights are ON when driving and when I press the brake pedal is turns OFF.
I been searching online for info of how to fix it, can be anything.
I checked/bought fuses, bulbs, battery but nothing.
Checked the brake switch, someone told me to test it with a multimeter..
Anyone can help me…

Sunshine Sims says:

And I did it myself…

Sunshine Sims says:

Wish I knew about this 3 years ago .. Lol…

Thanks!!!!!!!

Gabby Carreon says:

To be honest I believe Its the break pedal position sensor. But I can’t seem to find where it is located iunder the dash board. I remember seeing a broken small piece on my car floor and didn’t think much of It until now. The piece that helps push the sensor might have broken off.

covert88fsb says:

Sorry to hear that. At this point I would recommend a trusted mechanic.

Gabby Carreon says:

Today I tried the dielectric grease on like how you did it, but it didn’t help 🙁 Any other suggestions??

Gabby Carreon says:

You’re right! Thank you so much!!

covert88fsb says:

Gabby, it’s worth the few dollars and bit of time to try.

Roberto Trevino says:

Same issue with mine, i was thinking it was the break switch itself which is about 14 bucks to buy. Whenever mine does this though, the cruise control does not work(it thinks the brakes are being pressed) and sometimes its hard to get it into gear, i have to press really hard down on the brake. I shall try this though thanks for the vid.

Gabby Carreon says:

Hi Covert88fsb, my pontiac has had the same problem. The lights are on and when I break they turn off. I didn’t pay any attention to it until NOW that they stay on permanently. Should me doing this help solve that problem EVEN if the lights are now on permanently?
Thanks! 😀

Thank you so much I actually work for a ford dealership and paid 100 bucks to get this fixed , they tried 3 times didn’t work the last time I never told them it still didn’t work that’s when I found this video and wow it works perfectly….guess my work buddies don’t know much lol thank you again

scottylem says:

Very helpful! Had an issue with my cruise shutting off but never gave it much thought. Then someone told me my brake lights were getting stuck on. Tried this trick and for only $2.99 for a small tube of dielectric grease problem solved. No issues with either since.

trillMT4life says:

Really helpful video. same thing was happening to my ’06 g6 and the shop i took it to thought my brakes were sticking and wanted to replace my brake hoses and calipers. this saved me 350$ thanks!

chewie360 says:

There WAS a recall. But it only encompassed 2005-06 G6’s. I’ve filed my complaint with NHTSA.gov for my 2008. There is currently an expansion of the original recall being considered.

chewie360 says:

I was nearly rear-ended a few days ago because of this problem. It wasn’t until I tried to engage the cruise control on the highway that I noticed there was a problem. The brake lights coming on causes the cruise control to shut off. Walked around the car when I got to my destination, and boom, same problem described above.

chewie360 says:

The easiest way to check for this problem is to simply walk around the car while the ignition is on. If you have problems with the cruise control turning off, or failing to engage, you also have this problem. The voltage drop of the tail lamps coming on is what triggers the cruise control to shut off.

robin302 says:

Thanks so much for this video. I was having the same problem with my brake light. Earlier today someone almost hit me in the back end because of it. I researched what the brake light was doing and it led me to this video. I put the tune-up grease on the one you suggested but I still had the problem. I put some on the top connector and it did work after that! I feel so much better now knowing that it’s working! thanks again!

covert88fsb says:

Unfortunately there isn’t an indication inside the car. If you don’t have anyone to help out you can simply back up to a wall or garage door.

kafoure93 says:

Does your dash light flicker? How do you know that your brakes lights are messing up other than having someone behind you that can tell you? Thanks.

kafoure93 says:

Its just a way to make money.

Jennifer Kendrick says:

I cant thank you enough for posting this video, I was told my brake light sensor needed replaced but that didn’t help. I bought some of the dielectric grease and tried it out and guess what it worked!!! I’m so glad I didn’t have to spend hundreds of dollars on this repair.

barcode1963 says:

Thanks buddy, I have a 06 G6 same problem went to the dealer about 3 months ago had it replaced cost me $153.00 “so they say they replaced it” and it just started doing it again watch your video & now its fixed but I used Vaseline works just as good…

Jen Simpson says:

Everyone! There’s a story out this morning through the AP that a recall is being considered by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Please report your issue to the NHTSA!! (safercar.gov):

Jen Simpson says:

Hear ya, but still, ugh! What if someone ends up dying b/c they get rear-ended? Apparently the words “ethical” and “responsibility” are not in their vocabulary 🙂 (only profit, money, etc.)

covert88fsb says:

Intermittent but it gets progressively more often until it is constant.

covert88fsb says:

I always go back to this…

“Now, should we initiate a recall? Take the number of vehicles in the field, A, multiply by the probable rate of failure, B, multiply by the average out-of-court settlement, C. A times B times C equals X. If X is less than the cost of a recall, we don’t do one.”

Jen Simpson says:

Unbelievable! Same problem w/ my husband’s G6, and what I cannot comprehend is how this is such a HUGE safety issue and Pontiac acts like it’s no big deal…. where’s the recall?? (ok, I know they’re no longer making cars), but STILL!

408montes says:

this has been happening to my 06 gtp G6 my lights only stay on sometimes well most the time were her lights always coming on or did it just do that when it wanted?? if this works ill give u the like

Steven Herron says:

Great Video! I just tried it today and it worked! My cruise control finally work! I disconnected the negative cable on the battery before i did anything. So far its working great. Thanks for this vid Covert88fsb!

leshaun84 says:

I have been having this issue for three years now… and have had to go back to the dealer each time. I will try this process. Thanks so much.
