This is a great idea. I have used the old race. Then used a punch to drive the old race out once the new race was seated. Cutting the old race is a better idea.
Why are people saying this is not good idea and should buy a kit , they are all wrong and this guy is not a fitter this a guy who can call himself a mechanic becouse fitters haven't a clue how to use whstd available to get the job done with what's around you
Yup, homemade tools lying here and there can be pretty handy for sure even if you have proper tools waiting.
With a lathe you could make the tool you need and more.

Put your races in the freezer over night before installing.
Then just add your favorite topping I like caramel but chocolate will do also .
Discs need replacing and so does your new bearing outer race.
Go to harbor freight and buy a race kitt
