I have a 1999 Hyundai Elantra GLS, I know this video is for a different car
but, the intermittent speed on my wipers doesn’t work. The two other speeds
work fine, just the intermittent speed. I was wondering if that speed
doesn’t work, is that a sign of a bad motor? If not, what else could it be?

austin peters says:

I own a 2002 Pontiac Montana, I hate the van it’s constant trouble. The
latest issue is the wipers when on stick in the HALF WAY up position on the
windshield they don’t make a full sweep up the windshield and they freeze
in mid air and the only way they go back down is if you turn the wipers
OFF. Is it the motor or the arm?

1A Auto Parts says:

If there are working fine and you just need to reposition them, there
should be a small tab that you can pull out as you lift the wiper arm up on
the transmission stud. that will enable you to take the wiper arm off and
move it to a better spot on the windshield. Hope this helps you out.

1A Auto Parts says:

@eb121209 The issue may be in the motor or it may also be in the wiper
relay switch. Many times it’s the relay switch that goes bad on different
types of vehicles that causes this issue. Hope this helps.

1A Auto Parts says:

You may want to check the inside of the wiper arm to see if there’s
anything stuck up in the arm and also check the stud that the wiper arm
attaches to, and see if there’s anything on it that may prevent it from
seating all of the way. You may also need to pull the metal tab out while
pushing down on the arm so that it seats correctly. Hope this helps you
out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

1A Auto Parts says:

@eb121209 On many of the newer cars there’s a separate relay that controls
the speed of the wipers. You may want to ask your local Hyundai dealer if
your vehicle has one and where it’s located. Hope this helps out.

1A Auto Parts says:

If it’s on the rear window, you may need to take the door panel off and
inspect the wiper motor to see how it’s connected.

Great videos. I just replaced the entire transmission and motor to the
wiper assembly, but the timing is still off on the wiper arms(what caused
this mess in the first place). The wipers hit on the way up and crash into
one another on the way down often times locking into one another. Is there
anything to adjust to avoid this collision? Could it be the motor arm
itself? Thanks for all your help!

Deana Callaghan says:

My wipers try to work but thats about it. I replaced the wiper motor and I
still have the same problem. The garage who told me it was the motor now
tells me its the entire transmition assembly. Would this be the case? Also
how important is it to have the cover on?

Eric Ver Linden says:

@1aauto I know, I was asking you if it’s the switch on the steering wheel.

1A Auto Parts says:

While the wipers are turned off and at rest, you may want to try taking
them off of the studs and re-positioning them at the bottom of the
windshield as they should be in the parked position.

Thanks for the video; I have a 99 venture and the wiper arm to the rear,
above the right front strut tower mount has fallen out of the ball joint.
The bolts are facing the opposite direction so I can’t get the ratchet in
there to tighten the bolts. Now only one arm has motion, the other wont
move because of this problem. how can I fix this ? Can the entire assembly
be taken out to fix this connection ?

gdubb98 says:

when i put the new arm on the wipers when resting fully in the park
position make it about a quater inch to short to reach the motor arm, can u
help??

1A Auto Parts says:

HI Ryan, I’m not sure if you are referring to the transmission rod that
moves back and forth which turns the wiper arms up and down.

sarahcadotte says:

Can you post a video of how to adjust them? Mine are stuck up and will not
go into the “park” position!

1A Auto Parts says:

@ptcruide It could be the wiper motor getting tired, might also be the
switch. I would look into both of those since they control the wiper speed.

Eric Ver Linden says:

@1aauto That’s the switch that’s on the side of the steering wheel, right?

1A Auto Parts says:

@eb121209 This video shows you how to replace the wiper motor arm that
wipes the windshield.

1A Auto Parts says:

If the motor has been replaced and it works correctly but the wipers are
not moving, the bushings for the wiper arms on the transmission might be
worn out and the entire transmission might need to be changed. If the cover
is not on, it will allow debris and more water than normal to get into the
bushings in not only the transmission linkage but also the motor and wear
them out quicker.
