Curious, do you have to replace the entire side mirror unit if only the
glass is cracked/partly missing a piece? Or can you simply replace the
mirror only?
Right, as others have said. I have a 2004 Grand am and i just popped the
plug loose without taking the panel off.

:T Some butt on my campus knocked the mirror off my car (and then moved so
I wouldn’t know who did it). My uncle managed to temporarily put it back in
position, but it was knocked off again by my grandmother. I finally bit the
bullet and bought a set of new mirrors. c: Thanks for showing me how to

@SoWickedCrow If you’re careful you can usually release the clip with a
small screw driver. If the tabs are old they can become brittle over time
so you have to be careful when taking them apart.
Are all 3 knobs on dash the same? One on right side for 01 Grand Am broke.

it is alot easier to use mini vice grips to twist the screws back into the
new mirror. The foam gasket makes the screws barley catch the new threads.
Also it is a lot faster not removing the whole side panel just pull open
the panel enough to hook up the new power cord saves 15 minutes . good video
Is it necessary to take the door panel off? In the video i couldnt see a
reason why. I have 04 Grand Prix

@Shenoa85 They should come off pretty easily. You may want to try some
penetrating oil.
I’m sorry. One more question. Could I just paint it straight or do I have
to sand it down and add primer first?? Thanks
@WprEmiere1985 You can use a flat screwdriver but the risk of breaking the
clips or door panel is higher.
@1aauto Thanks, for the alero there are only 3, it was 12* out so the door
was pretty stuck on there but I finally got it off, it was a little harder
than the Monte door haha
@WprEmiere1985 It all depends on how good you want it to look and how long
you want the paint to last. If you just want a quick job that looks decent
just spray it. If you want a nice finish that will last, sand it prime it
and paint it.

the dealer should be able to get one for you.
Do i have to have a putty knife. Couldn’t I just use my flat head??

I cant even get my hex nuts to budge and you make it look easy. Looking at
them it doesn’t look like they are seperate from the threaded part. I am
just not strong enough to take them off? Any tips? Thanks!
hopefully i get a quick response, on the alero there are only 3 screws to
remove right? i have them all out and just want to make sure that’s it, i’m
pulling on the bottom of the panel and it’s not budging, just want to make
sure i have all the screws out before i break something haha

@Red04MonteLS There are 4 or 5 to remove the door panel. This video will
show you the varios spots that they are hidden in. Hope this helps you out.

Got the parts I need but thank you. 🙂 I do have to say that this video was
very helpful. I lucked out and was able to get to the wire connections
without having to take the door panels off. I did manage to get out some of
the denting with a rubber mallet. Not as good as it was but it will have to
do until I replace the fender and get a new paint job. Thank you again for
