Thanks 1A! This video helped me do my first front end brake job. The first
side took me longer than it should have, the second side was a breeze.
Remember to grab a couple packets of brake lube and some brake cleaner
spray when you’re picking up parts. I packed some paper towels around the
brake reservoir and loosened the cap before I used the C-clamp to press the
pistons into the calipers. However, no fluid came out of the reservoir at
any time.
If you pull the slide pins right out ,as shown in the video, make sure they
are smooth and clean, then apply a VERY thin layer of never seize to
promote sliding. Also where the caliper slides against the knuckle it bolts
on to, there are two slide surfaces that should be cleaned and again a thin
layer of never seize helps prevent then from seizing and wearing out one
side prematurely,
You can put a little anti-seize on the back of the brake pads to help
prevent them from making a squeaking noise. Hope this helps you out.

They should be tightened back up as they were from the factory. Hope this
helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
i noticed you didn’t tighten the caliper bolts all the way back in, is that
ok?
Was very helpful to me, thanks!
If you can get a set of vise grips to clamp on the outside of them, you
could try that. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
@brandon1997bmx It depends on the vehicle. It seems as though the hex ones
are pretty popular, but I’ve also seen many star tipped ones used to hold
various things together too.

Hey Mike, when i tried removing the allen bolts my key sliped, and i cant
get them off. if the edges are rounded what do i have to do to get it out?
Nice video. Loved the part where you forwarded the obvious stuff…
shouldn’t you be taking the cap of brake oil reservoir off, when pushing
the piston back with C-clamp? Thanks
I approve this message…lol
@digitalmixer The procedure is the same as this video. You’ll need a jack
and jackstands. You can use your jack with the vehicle to jack it up but
then make sure it is supported by a jack stand as well. Then your lug
wrench that comes with the truck to remove the lug nuts. The calipers are
probably bolted on with a 3/8 inch allen wrench although I don’t know for
sure. They may be bolted on with bolts that are anywhere from 13-19 mm. So
you may need a socket and ratchet.
what a great video, short to the point, Good job guys, thank you

@meria05 You may be referring to a torx bit.
Glad we could help you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393
can i order in canada?
@mamatalu Taking the cap off is not totally necessary. Air can escape the
reservoir just from pressure. I believe I do suggest removing some brake
fluid if it is topped off.
If you need a set of brake pads and rotors for your 1992-2005 Pontiac
Sunfire, yes we can ship them to Canada.
If you are having an issue with a grinding noise when you brake, you will
want to have the brakes looked at because they could be down past the pad
material and causing metal to metal contact.
After replacing the front brake pads my brake pedal now presses all the way
to the floor. could this be due to a lack of pressure or the fact that the
rotors are too thin due to never being changed? If it is a lack of pressure
how to I ensure the pressure is there? If its the rotors, I know to just
purchase new rotors. Thanks for responding.
Thanks for the videos, they are a great help. FYI – I used an old hockey
puck over the cylinder when compressing the caliper, covers it perfectly
and less twisting on the C-clamp.
@1aauto What torx bits and hex bits are most common on vehicles now days ??
This video is awsome and really helpful thanks alot! The only backdrop I
encountered was that it seemed like it took you less than 15 min to do this
and it took me 2.5 hours haha those damn scissor lifts were such a hassle.
@calarooni As long as it’s at the proper level and not over filled, you
should be fine.
this video is very helpful, instructions and video is very clear, im doing
this procedure tomorrow for a friend. thanks alot
well done instructional video. I knew how to change calipers and rotors
already but watched this as a refresher since its been a long time, you
covered all the bases nothing more nothing less. thanks.
Doim the brakes and struts on my 03 this weekend. Thanks, its all very
crear to me now
@weepulization only time you bleed brakes is when you replace a brake line,
a hose, or a caliper. or any part of brake system in which fluid escaped
the system, on this type of job only thing you need to remember is when job
is done pump up the pedal
what is the tool called that is suppose to be used instead of the allen
wrench?
After replacing you brake pads BEFORE you drive the car you have to pump up
the brake pedal to build pressure back into the caliper. All you have to do
is get in and step on the brake pedal about 10 X and you should feel it
stiffen up. Hope this helps you out.
@1aauto thanks do you have any advice to loosening up the bolts on the
caliper? My dad had tried so much and it didnt budge not one bit
how to replace brakes pads on a tahoe 2002and what do you need do you have
a video..
Thanks again mike! Your #1 awesome guy!
