I agree with gpof. Just did mines. Painters tape is a good suggestion. Also used Sylvania taking off that second rubber. Work well. Took me 10 minutes. Thanks.
Just replaced my low beam bulb this morning. Your video sure did help. I used painter’s tape like you showed, popped the assembly out, and with a little twist the whole assembly came right out. I replaced the low beam with a Sylvania instead of the Phillips bulb. I noticed the Sylvania was a little thicker, so I ended taking one of the rubber washers off and it went in just fine. Job done in about 20 mins. Thank You ! Great Post!!

My right headlight finally went out, but i had zero crispy in the connector, and it hit 100k miles so probably normal wear. And the left is still good since i grounded it separately, ill keep you posted.
One question I did replace the bulb but even tho I did still isn’t on any suggestion????

Concerning the burnt out connectors, the issue is the ground from the headlamp assembly you are changing to the car, the original sux, in which case, re ground to the chassis of the car when you replace the plug altogether. If you notice, all the burning is on the ground side, and, imho, due to the connection there and the ground on the chassis.

i want to put a slim HID kit into my headlight, from your experience would their be enough room behind the light casing to fit the ballast and put the light casing securely back in, the dimensions of the ballast are 3″X2.5″X0.7? i have an 06 g6 gt goupe

I just completed this job for the second time… I found the trick to getting the light assembly to pop out easily is to apply most of your force to the outer and lower edges and it sort of lifts out. part of the difficulty is that the weather stripping may be adhered to the body work over time and not want to let go at first. good luck everyone… it’s much easier the second time!
You may try to use some needle nose pliers. You will need to run to the parts store to replace the clip.
I have an ’06 G6 with 6 clips instead of 4, it would have been alright but the 6th one stripped and is now unusable, any recommendations on how to get it out? its the one that is clipped right into the headlight that i am trying to change.
OK, I just changed my bulb for my drivers side headlight in my 07 G6 and for other novices like me I wanted to give a few comments on things..
First the tabs are like dry wall screws the way they go in they expand. So what you want to do is wiggle the outer layer all the way out letting the inner layer contract and come out so they don’t break. You also want to pull the two layers at the top so there is a gap when replacing they go in real easy then, pop the bottom in then press on top layer..
i just finished my G6… thanx for the help.. this video saved me quite a bit of money and was super helpful, im not the handy type, but this was easy.. i replaced both headlights
the head light is connected to a clip or something like that.. it took me a second to get the headlight loose also.. i just finished doing my g6 right now.. i kept yanking on it and i thought it was going to break.. but youll be ok.. just give it a couple of yanks and wiggles.. youll get it
I tried changing this on my G6 last night, The side of the headlight that’s closest to the fender I couldn’t get lose. It seemed like it was stuck on something. Is there a clamp that i’m missing? I took the 2 screws out like you showed in the beginning but for the life of me I couldnt get the entire light to slide all the way out.
I found I didnt even have to pull the light right out (Very difficult and worry about cracking plastic grill surround) I just wedged it out best I could. Saved any paint from chipping, cracking, and the paint putting it back in. Either way, great tutorial, thanks!

Thanks for the tutorial. I can’t help but feel a little upset at the RIDICULOUS engineering by GM. Something that is replaced often such as a headlight bulb, should be way easier to change, as it is on 95% of the other vehicles on the road. I mean why not use the quick release clips on the lens assembly like Volvo and Ford? Absolutely ridiculous for a headlight bulb to be that difficult to change.
So thanks again for the help, I only knew to do it through the fender liner before.
