Dude, thank you so much for this video. I was afraid of unbolting the
engine until I saw this vid. Thanks! Just wish my impact gun worked… I
had to use a breaker bar to undo the mount… Not a lot of space in there
to use a breaker bar… I wish I was my neighbor, just so I could’ve
watched me fight… It gave up before I did. 🙂
Don’t have to remove tire, but you may find it easier to get at motor mount
bolts through wheel well if you did. Jack up the oil pan using piece of
wood that IMO is >= the bottom of pan thus displacing weight and pressure
from the jack. You may need another person to start mount bolts while you
shift engine forward as I had to when I changed my mount. Awesome video
btw.
I had to change the serpentine belt on my 2000 malibu last week. I think
you showed the procedure pretty well. It really isn’t a difficult job, but
if you don’t have a really thin profile 3/8″ breaker bar or in your case,
the special GM tool, it can nearly be impossible. I also found it helped to
lift the engine about 1/2 inch or so after removing the engine mount plate.
It helped to get the belt through that opening.
You don’t have to lift the motor up. Just take the pressure off of the
mount. Maybe lifting it slightly will help in putting the belt and
tensioner on. Remember to lower the engine before putting the mount on.
@ohio1998 Late 90’s GM products are notorious for having all sorts of evil
things like that. Engineering like this and it’s no wonder they needed a
bailout. I’ve done nothing but cuss at my GA… Why can’t it be like my
Jeep? 4 or 5 wrenches and I can have the whole thing apart. …and I have
to take the dang thing apart about once a week. 🙁
who designs a car to where you have to take an engine mount lose to change
belt?
I replaced my alternator on my 2002 GrandAm but now it is overheating, do
you have an idea what is wrong?
Thanks! This was very helpful!

not fit
depends if you do it yourself or have a mechanic do it, which do you
choose?
