I have a 2000 Pontiac bonneville 3.8 having a hard time removing radiator
due to lack of room & no clearance ,,I have all mounting bolts removed but
the tranny line nuts are still bolted to the radiator, how do I remove
without tearing nothing up

spelunkerd says:

Nice job, Ben. I didn’t know it would be so difficult

Shockern003 says:

good stuff more videos plz

Turbo231 says:

You’re overlooking the complete chassis change in 1998 which makes your
method nice for pre-98 cars but impossible on 98 and up 3800 engines.

giantAsFan says:

How much was the new gasket

trentman says:

it would have been better of just going ahead and pull the motor on out and
do the rear main seal as well save the trouble:)

Turbo231 says:

One problem with that idea…how to get the new one in? If it won’t come
out, it won’t go in, so the solution of getting the old one out solves the
problem of getting the new one it.

Turbo231 says:

@ncrdisabled It does suck, but easier to work in snow then the cold.
Changing a starter at -20F was much worse. So cold!

Ryan B says:

I had tuffy do mine and 2 days later my engine started to click… could
that be related to bad workmanship?

MDHusker says:

Thanks for the video! Great Job! I’m just going to sell the car! OK, NOT. I
have the same problem with a 2001 Buick Regal. I do not look forward to
removing that bracket. The good news is that my harmonic balancer is
already off because I replaced the crank sensor.

Man working on as in the snow must be a bear.

Turbo231 says:

That POS bolt…it was the worst. Honestly, luck. Pressure and turning and
it caught, I was very pleased it did. I had pretty much talked myself out
of having to put it back in honestly, that’s probably what did it.

Trevor Steen says:

great video. did it this weekend but how in the world did you get the bolt
next to the transmission back in? Its the one you mention at 2:13.

spelunkerd says:

Gotta love the mooing cows in the audio, ha ha.

Turbo231 says:

Sounds like bad luck honestly. However, thanks for the point, make sure you
prime the oil system before starting the car…aka disable the fuel pump
and ECM and just crank the engine until the oil pressure light turns off.
Because the oil system tends to drain, priming it will reduce the amount of
time the car runs without oil. I did that but failed to mention it…will
put it in the notes.

giantAsFan says:

What size socket did u use to remove the bolts & how many ft lbs did u
torque the bolts to install

ItzMyCalling says:

Hi — I installed a new oil pump and I am not getting oil to the top of the
engine. I was told I need to prime the pump — can you explain the steps in
doing so — It ticks from starvation 2004 3.8 gp series II

Great video. Gave me a good idea what to expect on my 02 impala. Changed
the pan yesterday in about 3 hours. Saved a bunch of money by doing it
myself. Thanks again
