Oldsmobile 307 power steering pump belt adjustment pt.1

Oldsmobile 307 power steering pump belt adjustment pt.1

A common problem with these Oldsmobile 307 engines is a belt that squeals when the headlights, heater, or any other electric accessories cause a load to be put on the alternator. Because the squealing happens when the alternator is under load, the alternator belt is usually misdiagnosed as the problem and is unnecessarily replaced or adjusted and the squealing is still present. Here is what I usually find to be the problem.

I made a huge mistake and took out the bottom bolt all the way. Now I have the belt tensioned and the bolt isnt lining back up. I am at my wits end trying to get it to go in. What do I do now?

I deleted my AC just like you did. I immediately got the "squeal." I replaced water pump and alternator. Still squeal. I guess I will buy a new power steering belt and see what happens. Did you have the persistent squeal after AC delete?

Good video , this helped me a lot. I wanted to put new belts on but could not figure out this part . Seeing that i was putting new belts on i cut the power steering belt off to be able to turn the pulley so i could see the bolt behind the pulley . What i would like to add to this video is / i discovered i could reach the bolt behind the pulley with an open end 15 mm wrench . Once the pump is loose to move to bolt into view , i then use a 15 mm socket. Nice to know all the bolts to loosen this pump are 15mm
