They should go back into the same place in which they came out. You may want to see if the boot is missing on the other one. You can use the other side of the vehicle as a reference. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

Jonathan Babbitt says:

On GM brakes, I noticed that one of the caliper guide pins has a boot on it and the other pin does not. Does it matter which way they go back into the caliper?

Thank you for your videos Mr 1aauto sir. I have viewed many different vehicle maintenance videos & I must yours are the best….thanks again.

Matthew LaFollette says:

I’ve changed my front break pads on my Malibu a couple times on my own, but now its time for my rotors to be changed…this video makes it a LOT less daunting. thank you for the great tutorial!

1aauto says:

Once the line in the middle of them (wear indicator) is gone, they should be replaced.

aewandadw says:

how wore down do my break pads need to be to replace them

You’re welcome Shane, thanks for watching. Have a great day! 1aauto.com 888-844-3393

Shane Park says:

Just finished the rotor and brake replacement with the parts purchased from the video. The most difficult thing I’ve done on a car before was probably replace the windshield wiper blades. This tutorial was extremely easy to follow, and the parts and tools ended up cheaper than if I had the work done professionally. THANK YOU!

1aauto says:

HI Shane, You may want to check both the front and rear brake pads and rotors to see if they are worn, and need to be replaced.

Shane Park says:

About to pull the trigger on the parts, but I have a question. I hear grinding when I brake, but sometimes, even when I’m not braking, the grinding persists for a while. Is there something else I should be looking for? Or would replacing the parts resolve all the grinding noises I hear?

I have the Actron 9580A scanner that will scan for ABC DTC codes for Asain vehicles, but I am told that ABS coverage for an Accord does not start until model year 1998 on the CP9580A. The ABS system software in previous years was not compatible with the tool hardware.

1aauto says:

If there’s a light on in the dash you should be able to pull the codes with a scanner. Hope this helps you out.

dcareyHQvideos2 says:

How can I read the DTC codes for the ABS on a 1996 Honda Accord EX?

1aauto says:

It may help to prevent them from sticking and wearing out the pads prematurely.

UFOGHOSTHUNTER says:

Do you have to lube up the Caliper Bolt Pins? That’s the only step I forgot.

my 03 malibu uses 12mm and 13mm sockets. This was excessively helpful. Thank you!

1aauto says:

You may want to turn the wheel by hand on both sides to see if you can hear what’s rubbing. You also may want to check everything to see if all of the bolts are tight and that everything was put back together correctly.

bradzz89 says:

I have an 2001 malibu that i changed the brakes on and now when i go 40mph and brake. the whole car shakes! Now theres a really loud rubbing sound you can hear from in the car. Barely go over 15mph you can hear the rubbing. Any ideas on what i can do about this problem?? Thanks.

1aauto says:

You may want to try to bleed the brakes to see if that helps.

delbridge11l says:

hello. i used this video to change my 01 chevy malibu brakes and rotors. When i was finished i test drove it and the brakes seemed to slightly have constant pressure. i drove the car for 10 miles and got out and i could smell the heat coming from my pads and my rims were warm and i could smell the heat coming from the brakes. any ideas? Could i have tightened the 12 mm bolts to tight?

I’ve got an 04 Grand Am, I need to replace the front pads and rotors. Is this the same for my model? Do I need to bleed the brakes or drain the brake fluid at all or is that not necessary for a pad/rotor change?

1aauto says:

Unfortunately at this time we do not have a video for the rear brakes but we will keep this in mind for a video down the road.

paul perez says:

Krainlo Hung says:

Thank you. Helped me out alot.

chupalia says:

Good video

1aauto says:

They’re not bad. It’s fairly simple. Just remember to pump the brake pedal when you’re done servicing the brakes before you move the vehicle. You’ll need to pump them about 10X until the pedal gets firm. Hope this helps you out.

stephen phillips says:

Hi a have just ordered front and rear disc brakes for my car watch your video . is it easy to replace them it looks easy.

someishtrippin says:

Why subject the master cylinder to air and dirt, why not just bleed the lines after every pad replacement

thetooth3011 says:

this was really helpful

TheAudioCenter says:

Perfict. Thanks guys.

1aauto says:

If you car has grease fittings on the ball joints or tie rod ends, usually it’s easier to get at them with the wheels off. On the pads themselves you could use some anti-squeak gel on the outside of the pads, to prevent them from squeaking. Hope this helps you out.

Maria Jimenez says:

I have an 05 pontiac grand am se… i just want to know what parts should i lube before i install the brake pads??

romansten9 says:

it (the piston) will usually still move, because the cap has a vent, but you may possibly spill some fluid, which isn’t the best thing.

1aauto says:

you want to make sure that the caliper piston is collapsed all of the way into the caliper. If it isn’t then it may make it difficult to get the new pads over the rotor.

1aauto says:

The basics should be similar, but as far as unbolting the calipers, that process may be slightly different.
