These videos are great for people who happen to have a vehicle lift in their garage. lol
Appreciate it nonetheless, but doing this on your back must really suck.

Xavier Holland says:

You mean throttle body. There is no carburetor on any car after the 80s. All vehicles went to EFI. What you are talking about is the throttle body. If the pump engages but the vehicle will not send fuel into the block, keep in mind there are about 4 major things in between the fuel pump and the engine block. Fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, fuel rail or fuel injector rail, and the fuel injectors. This can be a difficult area to diagnose and a mechanic will need to air test the line.

AirtexFuelPumps says:

Labor rates vary across the country so it’s difficult to estimate the average rate in your area. The time to change the fuel pump in your vehicle is 1.8 hours. Maybe this will help in determining the amount to change the fuel pump. Thanks for watching.

I have a 2004 Alero. How much is the labor cost to replace the fuel pump including pump. Thanks

AirtexFuelPumps says:

Unfortunately, it’s difficult for us to give an estimate as labor rates and install times vary drastically from shop to shop.

grey castle says:

about how much is it to have the fuel pump replaced, it just seems more work than I can do

AirtexFuelPumps says:

If after replacing the fuel pump the gauge quit working, you should check the wiring harness to make sure it is in good order & check the ground to make sure it was not damaged/loosened during the installation. If all of those check out then you may have to remove the unit from the tank to see if the float arm is hanging up on something or if there is an issue with the sender assembly. If you need more help once you get started, please feel free to call our free tech line: 800.424.7839. Thanks.

hi, after replacing the fuel pump in my 99 alero, the gas gauge won’t work no more do you any suggestions?

AirtexFuelPumps says:

Hello, the first thing to do is to check the fuel pressure. If your car has a 2.2L then the spec is 50-60 psi & 3.5L the spec is 52-59. Both are Key on/Engine off specs. This will tell if there is a fuel pressure problem or if the problem lies somewhere else. If you need more help, don’t hesitate to call our free tech line: 800-424-7839 and one or techs can walk you through the diagnosis. Thanks.

Sorry, unable to post the video link. If yo go to our channel and search for “How to Check Fuel Pressure,” you’ll see it. Thanks.

AirtexFuelPumps says:

You should be able to check it yourself. Here’s a link to our video on “How to Check Fuel Pressure”. It should help. You will need a fuel pressure gauge, which you should be able to rent from one of your local auto parts stores. Again, if you get stuck or need more help, don’t hesitate to call our tech line: 800-424-7839.

pepsimama19 says:

Thank you. Would I be able to test the fuel pressure myself? Or does it have to be done by a professional?

AirtexFuelPumps says:

There are many things that can affect the starting & running of a vehicle. The fuel system is one, but can also be in another area of the vehicle. The first step to diagnose this issue would be a fuel pressure test. The spec for your 2001 Olds Alero is 52-59 psi, Key on/Engine off. With this information we can continue diagnosing the fuel system or focus on another area of the vehicle. Might be easier to help you over the phone. Please feel free to call our free tech line: 800-424-7839. Thanks!

Will fuel cleaners like lucas prolong the fuel pump?

pepsimama19 says:

So I have a 2000 Alero and my car will start but stall immediately after. I live on a US Army post with no parts for cars. I don’t know what could be wrong.

AirtexFuelPumps says:

Unfortunately no. Diagnostics start with a pressure check. If pressure is within spec, it’s definitely not the pump. However, low pressure isn’t always due to a faulty pump. A pressure gauge is needed to check flow & residual pressure, & will tell you if the check valves or regulator are working properly. Many parts stores loan pressure gauges, so you don’t have to buy one. You can do electrical tests, but only after pressure tests. For more info watch our “How to Check Fuel Pressure” video.

MTXRooster says:

Is there any other way besides the pressure check to determine whether the fuel pump is faulty? (for those without access to said pressure checker)
