OK, I just realised what he's going for. As part of the head gasket repair, verify that all the pistons have the same TDC measurement from the deck. Don't just assume that all the lower assembly is OK. (I thought he was intimating that the bent rod was caused by not doing a piston protrusion test)

Hydrolocked. Water doesn't compress. Something's gotta give when the piston is being pushed to top dead center.
