Nissan CV axle or halfshaft replacement on the passenger side.

I replace a CV axle or halfshaft on the passenger side of a 1999 Nissan Altima. Replacement of the CV axle went pretty smoothly. First of all getting the nut…

thanks for putting this video up. same exact way on my 2002 quest.
passenger side a little more work than the drivers side,it just snaps in.
used your video to show my son what the job consists of before taring into
it.

I’m not sure. Probably

Very nice video dude, I was going to break my ball joints because of losing
my camber setting, but after this video looks like I can go the easier
route. Thanks

@mailman390 Thank you…. Iο»Ώ did my drivers side last year and I didn’t
have any trouble getting the old one out. I usually use a super bar and
they pop right out. I’m always paranoid that the new one isn’t popped in
all the way when I put it back together.

@oceanlifeguardtough Thank you

Very helpful for doing passenger axle on my 97 Mercury Villager (Nissan
Quest), which mostly looks identical to this. Many thanks for posting. One
thing that came as an unpleasant surprise was difficulty of getting that
carrier bearing free from the bracket. Had to oil it up several times,
whale on it from every angle, drive a putty knife in between the mating
surfaces β€” and only gradually break it out. Terrible time of it. Some
corrosion on inside surface of the bracket, not surprisingly.

Great video. . thanks. Did bro’s ’98 Altima yesterday using your video as a
guide. Funny, the same sway bar link was bad on his, too.

The Haynes manual goes from 1993 to 2006 so I assume all those years are
basically the same but I don’t know that for a fact.

Great video keep it up!

nice video , just a tip , to get that 36mm bolt off easy. before you lift
the car using the weight of the car the hub wont give. it will be easy to
turn the bolt . “lefty loosey’ yes of course use your “cheater bar”

Ruben theIowan says:

Thanks for the video really helped out!

awesome vid

I just replaced both of my axles today… nice vid but I found if you
remove the two strut bolts on the spindle and let the spindle fall forward
you eliminate taking the tie rod and all the other stuff off

Nicole Nobrega says:

You did not replace that half shaft with the correct part. You see the side
to side old and new shot. well, the little rubber chunk on the old half
shaft towards the hub is a dynamic damper. Keeps your drivetrain from
destroying itself. Also the section you removed the inner half shaft from
is what houses the spider assembly. Anyways, do you actually still have
this thing as your daily driver?

Great video and instructions. Thanks for sharing!

Sick of haynes manuals. Most of the informating is missing and I end up
watching videos, reseaching on the internet anyway. Hats off you guys/gals
like you who post info. Already rebuilt 3 cars this year thanks to the
internet. 2 rebuilt engins and a rusted out 98 Nissan that hit a guard rail
during our last snow storm….rebuilt the entire front end, radiator,
bumper, lights, grill for under $200 The Nissan needs CV’s and ball joints
too so here I am. Sisters Birthday present πŸ™‚ Thanks dude.

I just bought a new passenger side axle for my Sentra that I am going to
install this weekend. I wasn’t sure about what to do with the carrier
bearing. Thanks for the video, it really cleared things up for me.

Alden Ansbergs says:

doing an axle atm an easy way to remove the main bolt is a crowbar between
the lug nut studs. I was actually surprised how easy it was…. now the
control arm is a different story πŸ™‚

RyanDale311 says:

@thepowerfulnews Thanks for the comment. Mine wasn’t rusted too bad but
other viewers might have that problem. πŸ™‚

Allen Coleman says:

Thanks for the vid. Helped a lot!

RyanDale311 says:

@quareidfaciam That is interesting. I didn’t know that a Mecury Villager is
about the same as a Nissan Quest. I guess I got lucky with my axle coming
right out of the carrier bearing. Mine just slid right out.

RyanDale311 says:

You’re welcome πŸ™‚ I’mο»Ώ glad it helped and you got everything fixed

RyanDale311 says:

@ynnedibanez No problem, have fun changing out yours.

Wayne Young says:

Thanks for the great video…..I have to change the drivers side on my
daughters 2000 Altima……..much different from the passengers side other
than not having the carrier bearing? You think I’ll have much trouble
pulling it from the tranny? I know it has the little clip holding in.

Vova Ryabets says:

thanks for the video man, now i’m off to fix mine πŸ™‚

I had to replace my rear subframe on my 93 altima cause the drivers side
bracket off the rear subframe broke from rusting. The bracket that is
towards the front of the rear subframe. So be careful, i would look under
your car to check. It might just be mine though.
