give me a belt any day, still designed to fail!

Ricky Galbreath says:

If I replaced my tensioners and guide and didn’t touch the timing chain
whatsoever yet my car just crank and cranks but won’t start , so do I have
to rotate the engine manually until all tick marks line up?

Jose Prieto says:

turofm,, i like your video thanks to you i know that i timing this engine
on the right way ,,, thingis i start turning the engine clokwise and is
like the timing marks never going to be in the some spot ,,,,, i like to
put everthing back togheter jejeje and start this baby what do you think

kontractkiller84 says:

@TuroFm I have a question, does the 2007 Quest have automatic door locks
and if so how do you enable it?

Makayla Heller says:

If I need to remove the secondary chain tensioners do I have to pull the
cams or is it easier than that?

Adolfo Pinto says:

Hey men first of all your video is really good, you explain a lot of
important things. Well I have the same issue in my 2005 Altima SE 3.5, the
ticking on the timing chain but I have some question and I hope you can
help me.

1.- I found this kit on eBay
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2004-Nissan-Altima-Engine-Timing-Chain-Kit-Water-Pump-3-5L-Chains-Guides-New-/400637368211?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3AAltima&hash=item5d47d91793&vxp=mtris the right kit or I need more pieces?

2.- What about the “jumping time”? How can I damage the timing?

3.- Did you replace the secondary sprockets (left and right? It is really
necessary change it?

I know are a lot of question but I really concern about it, it’s annoying
hear this sound so again, I hope you can help me.

Thanks men.

Where can I buy the painted chains and who makes it?

res0tm5t says:

I need to do this repair myself. I have watched several informative videos
including yours. How hard was it to pull the motor from the van? I cant
decide to do it in place or pull the motor.

EinC says:

TuroFM, I’m making my rounds to thank all of the videos that helped me. I
did the same work with the same ’06 Quest engine in place believe it or
not. I was particularly concerned about the secondary sprocket alignment,
but once you are certain that your No.1 piston is at TDC, the the cam
keyways on those secondary sprockets align perfectly with a raised line on
the back wall behind them. The primary chain sprockets have a line on the
sprocket itself that run parallel to the secondary keyways and if that’s
not enough to assure anyone, the gold links must also align with the tick
marks on the sprockets both secondary and primary just as you detail. Note
to others: You should have another to help you remove and replace the
sprockets as a set because it’s a tight fit and it takes two hands on the
sprockets and one on the chain to ease it around the tensioner. Also,
double, triple, and quadruple check your links, tick marks, housing marks,
and TDC indicated by crankshaft alignment before you button up. I even and
turned the crankshaft several times (with sparkplugs removed) because I
really wanted to make sure I wasn’t hitting any valves. It took me a full
week to do this but I did it and saved thousands. Kind of hard to believe
it was all for a 50 cent piece of plastic. The secondary timing chain guide
whine is gone! Thanks TuroFM!

Armando says:

TuroFM your video and explanations helped allot thanks

TuroFM says:

Thank you BJ40. I hope it helps.

TuroFM says:

Some older version Nissan engines that had a broken timing chain/belt would
get damaged piston and valves since after they broke the crank and cams
would continue to turn off timing causing them to collide. I’m not sure
what these engines would do if one broke.

car mileage? 🙂

gavinlily1985 says:

Are these motors an inerfence motor?

Carlos Rodriquez says:

guau this is a very helpfull video bro tanks my dad is mechanic and he said
that what you did is the rigth thing and he also told me that you shuld use
sintetic oil that will help a lot too i just got a maxima and i have the
same problen but tanks to this video i have the chanse to fix it i know
this was a year ago so how the motor is working after that

mcpcartier says:

Great vid….appreciate you taking the time to post and share your
knowledge. I’ve poked around your info and some others and have realized
that if I’m going to pull this apart I need to replace the secondary chains
and the guide that mounts on the secondary tensioners. You pulled the
sprokets off the end of the cams to get at those secondary guides, did you
need to pull off the valve cover and put a wrench on the cams to hold them
still while removing and installing the bolt?

Arturo Martinez says:

I don’t do this for a living. I would guess here in AZ mechanics would
charge anywhere from $60-90/hour. You can expect to pay more at a dealer
since they quote their “Labor Fee” book and it states that the motor needs
to be removed while it is not necessary to remove the motor. At the end of
this video I quote some other YouTubers that show how to do the repair with
motor in vehicle. There are pros and cons to both…

TuroFM says:

The clips for the secondary tensioners just pop off after you remove their
respective chains which means you have to remove the sprockets. It is not
difficult but you do need to pay close attention to all the details. As for
the main guide yes the top off the plastic originally hugged the metal but
broke off causing the plastic to drop. I don’t know what would happen if
the chain would break.

chato1971 says:

Thanks for the video I did with out taking of the engine now I have no
noise.

Arturo Martinez says:

Im sure you got it on by now but I had a hard time as well. I had to loosen
the oil pan and drop it a few cm’s…

Dr. Venture says:

I do this weekly…good job!

TruAgape123 says:

Wait a minute! So the kit that Nissan sells contains THE SAME INFERIOR
PLASTIC PIECE AS THE ONE THAT FAILED???!!! So…owners can look forward to
doing this repair AGAIN down the road??? RENAULTS SUCK!!!!!!!!

Great video TuroFM. I have a 350z with this engine and a broken valve
spring (intake). Do you know if it is possible to remove the intake
camshaft and then the spring without removing the timing case, chain, etc,
etc?

Mickey Bauer says:

Thank you so much for this video! Now, here’s a stupid question, can two
plastic guides for secondary chains be replaced without taking off the
chains??? Please tell me there’s a way! Also how much did you pay for the
three guides and the main tensioner? THANK YOU!

Dude my 2004 Murano is making a rattling sound at start up, is it due to
this timing chain thing?
