it sounds as if you have a faulty power wire or possibly ground wire some place causing the lights to stay on. You are probably going to be searching for a broken wire for some time. Unfortunately there is no direction I could possibly point you in that would bring you to the source of the issue.
Hey Mike, I have a 95 explorer and my dash lights are out. I replaced the dimmer switch and they started working. The next morning I went out to go to work and my battery was dead. I noticed that my marker lights were on and the dash lights were still lit but the switch was off. When I removed the dimmer switch I noticed that it was hot and burned my fingers.the only way for me to be able to keep the dimmer switch connected without killing the battery again was to remove the fuse for dash lights
