The airflow arrow should be pointing towards the back of the car.

Nissan Maxima 2009-2014
Nissan Murano 2009-2014

Great video. I would have never found the filter pocket otherwise. But, this is by far the stupidest design I have ever seen for anything, this air filter location, by Nissan. What were you thinking?

Hassan A says:

Does it matter which way the filter is facing?

Ross Krause says:

I got my filter out and there was junk coming out as I was pulling it out,so I got the shop vac and got as much out as possible..I did cheat when putting filter back in,I just squeezed the end that goes into the filter housing, taped around the edge and stuffed into filter housing, then just cram the rest in..the housing was missing its cover so I ordered one and just got it..it fits perfectly, and the job is done..Thanks for the video.

Great post. I wish I had seen this before wasting 30 minutes trying to remove and reinstall the glove compartment. Doing it this way was 5 minutes total and easy.

You did not specify which way to point the airflow arrow located on the filter.
