It depends on what gen. of Nissan you have, I own a 96 Maxima (4th gen)
which is currently at 200k and still going strong, brakes, oil changes,
fuel system cleaners & a used fuel pump (190k) is all I’ve done I bought
the car at 160k I have driven out of state 2x and commuted 30 miles one
way to work for a year straight even drove in -17 degree temps.(chicago
winter 2013) and I am thankful that still today it cranks right up.Although
in Nissan cars you should avoid having less than a 14 tank of gas at all
times.

Kyle Turner says:

Question….. if that part is bad, will the engine turn over but not crank?
I have a 370z(2010) that will not crank :_( but the engine turns over, and
the battery keeps dying even with jumper cables on it. Please help! Before
I pay a lot of money at a shop to get it fixed.

EETechs says:

The problem with Japanese made cars is that they make them to be hard to
repair like that because in Japan, the people there simply throw out cars
like yesterday’s trash and buy a brand new one instead getting them fixed!!
There aren’t even any local auto parts stores in Japan that will carry all
the parts like we do in the USA at our automotive parts stores.

SweedSleds95 says:

My opinion upon Japanese cars overall, they suck. Brian is right about
Nissans lack of brains around gasket materials and thickness, so is
Mitsubishi. Even my old Toyota which was said to be the best car in the
world, which have had the best ever “upbringing” possible and full stamped
servicebook proven to be a piece of junk. Toyotas have been told to have
the best engines and survives just about anything, horse shit to that.
Never, ever, will I get myself an Japanese car!

I’ve problems with the Ignition switch cylinder, (Key Switch) it turns the
radio and everything, but when is time to start the motor, it just makes a
little noise, like a click, It starts after a severel tries, Do you know
how to fix it? I called an Electrical but he charges me $100 just to see
and check the problem, (Not repair) and Im like WTF??????? Can you Help me?
I’ve the same identical car, please help me out!!!!!

Tangalla Jackson says:

@brianmoble1 I have that problem where can I buy the part at none of the
part store have it 120A fuse do I have to order from the dealership thanjs

Partikkus says:

I am surprised a mechanic of your caliber doesn’t realize the solution to
this corrosion problem. You need to install battery washers to absorb the
sulfuric acid and prevent it from corroding anything.

AutoCraft Anticorrosion Battery Washers (2-Pack)
Part No. AC184/A1601312 $0.98

Jesse Crandle says:

I think it’s interesting how everyone seems to like Nissans so much. I get
why people like Hondas, I get why people like Toyotas (I much much much
prefer Hondas personally), but Nissans? They don’t seem to be especially
reliable, the don’t have anything that really makes them unique or
especially desirable, they’re not especially well made, and they’re not the
cheapest cars on the market. I’m not entirely sure what it is people see in
them. By the way, I’m a European car kind of guy, I’ve only ever owned
European cars, so I’m not experiencing any kind of Japanese fanboy issues
here since I don’t buy Japanese. If I had to, though, I’m just saying it
wouldn’t be Nissan.

Stewart Farr says:

I was a Huge Nissan and Toyota fan…..until I moved to the U.S. The U.S.
assembled Nissans/Toyota’s really are just crap. You can buy the JDM
version of the same car and the spec is so different. Like who the hell
wants drum brakes on a brand new car? (also that fuse thing is sorted on a
non-US Maxima/Bluebirds but not the US Altima). No wonder there are so many
recalls in the US but substantially less internationally. It’s a joke.

Nutz4Gunz45 says:

Nissans have been garbage since 2001. They used to be good, not sure what
happened. They don’t even come close to Toyota or Honda.

Barnekkid says:

Maybe you could rewire/mod that connection so the fuse isn’t right next to
the battery. Beats the heck out of having the fuses rot prematurely.

William Alequin says:

Hi Brian, thanks for the video. I was looking to do some troubleshoot on my
’09 Versa. And thought this could solve my problem, but I think the fuse on
mine is all right, not sure. Anyway, in my case it’s not the wipers that
comes on, is the fan, just switching the key to ACC, it will crank but it
won’t start.

Chris Davies says:

Buying a Nissan was one of my biggest mistakes.

susan fleury says:

Thanks for the info…after changing the battery, i got a spark and
completely dead car..Figured it was s fuse…Wow thank for youtbue i might
have s fix .

Mark Reveron says:

I am unable to remove the 12mm nut connected from the fusible link to the
positive battery connector, even with applying PB blaster and the use of a
breaker bar. Can I cut further down and use a coupler and extend a new
battery wire with a battery lug?

Have to a get line manuafactured in japan solely lol Gets worse year by the
year. Mimicking their American counterparts. All finance . Defective
problems mean youll visit dealership. More money n more money after youve
shell out 27k plus. Crazy keep cars under 12k if it lasts you past five yrs
youve got your moneys worth.

Matt says:

Where does the negative cable connect? I too am having to replace the
terminal (with fuses) on the positive connector and the negative table is
splitting and corroded creating a lot of resistance. Is this negative cable
hard to change and where about can I find its mounting points. Thanks in
advance!

matt8863 says:

I like this guy…I’m subscribing.

Marcelo Delima says:

Same thing happened to mine, i put a screw in between for the time been,
mine fuse busted because i was doing something and i forgot to disconnect
the battery, my fault, so the fuse did it’s job, bc it was some sparks
there …

Mark Bartlett says:

what a ridiculous idea. Every Nissan Ultima should include a roll of tin
foil with the spare wheel and jack. LOL. If the fuse blows, just pack it
tight with tin foil.

Out of interest, what is that main fuse rated at? It’s got to be quite
high.
