DIY Nissan Head Gasket

Try and save some money by doing it yourself. Nothing crazy and only basic tools are needed. Don’t use those stop leak stuff!!! It’ll just make things worse!!!

In this video I’ll help guide you on how to replace a head gasket on a 2005 Nissan Altima 2.5 liter. This will also work on the Nissan Sentra with the QR25DE. Same engine different car. You might find some of the things I do are not the conventional way on doing things but this is how I do it. Hey Peter, when I was trying to find the TDC, I could only find the orange mark on the timing chain, couldn't find the yellow or gold marks, so what can I do to find the TDC without the yellow or gold marks?

i got the bolts off sprockets. i was wondering how to get them off though? Tension on chain still tight.

need the head bolt torque specs please I don't think I did that part right my head gasket is leaking big time after I got done from where the water pump is at but I can tell it's coming front the head gasket I might have not torqued it correctly my last step was 85 foot pounds

Is it possible that when you remove the chain from the camshaft, the chain skips tooths on the crankshaft and mess up your timing?

Very helpful video, thank you. But 2 things. You never mention the intake ports and what a pain those are to get out and second, I've got every bolt loose on the thing that I can possibly find and the head will lift up about 1/2 an inch but no further…any thoughts? Again, thank you.

Very helpful video Peter. Wish where was one this detailed for everything Ive had to do over the years. A+ for this video. As far as the timing chain tensioner. It has a small hole in it near where the tensioner piston and spring come out. If you can compress the piston all the way back into the tensioner body you can put a small nail through that hole and it will sit in the groove in the tip of the piston. This will allow you to remove the tensioner without worrying about losing any parts. That was the most nervous part of the job for me. I really didnt wanna have to take the WHOLE timing chain cover and such off to retrieve parts.
