This is how to change a timing belt and timing belt components on a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 8. (USDM)
******** Edit for clarification on tension amount:*****
You want the tensioner pulley adjusted to where the grenade pin is loose in the auto tensioner. In the video, When i did the tensioner pulley adjustment you can see the grenade pin rotate so you know it is loose and free to remove. A loose grenade pin provides maximum travel from the tensioner and is what you want.

Hi, I'm from Brazil and after have the timing belt changed the engine of my car started having a kind of vibratiion. Its like if the engine were lying somewhere in the chassis of the car.
Do you think this could happen if some mark point were mismatched? Tks
thank you for this awesome video! what exactly does the balancing shaft pulley do for the motor. why is it considered optional
Casually Explained: 4G63T Timing belt?
Nice video! Thanks.
Nice video the shop cost me 800
excellent job, exsplained very well thanks
how did you break open the Crank Pulley bolt? Is there a trick to keep it from spinning?
What about the tensioner pin does need to take out or what? Thanks
good video man thanks
Just did the timing belt tension on my friend's EVO VI. Had it set as per Mitsu's procedure, where the pin has to slide freely in and out of the hole in the autotensioner after 2 spins of the crank, and waiting 15 minutes. But the thing is, the final tension (just deflecting the belt between the cam sprockets, and the longg run lower down between the idler pulley and the front balance shaft sprocket) seems a little bit loose to me.
The actual tensioner pulley/happy face is in the same position as in your video, if not a bit further anti-clockwise/more tensioned. Thoughts? Is this just the auto-tensioner setting things the way she wants it to be, and me thinking the tension needs to be stronger than it should be on this engine?
Paul, great video, man. Twas' a good way to begin my Monday morning at work. I actually do not think I have any questions at the moment because you covered it so well. I will say that I do not look forward to doing this with the engine in vehicle – fortunately, my Evo only has 41k miles on it. Thanks for the vid and now I'm off to watch Blog #3.
do a how to vid for timing!
Best evo timing video on youtube by far IMO, zip ties and the proper tool kit ftw.
Great service video for the EvO community. Founder: EvORS owners society
according to the Mitsubishi shop manual, you can use two large paper clamps to clamp down the timing belt on to the cam sprockets then you run the belt down to idle pulley side.
absolutely superb video thanks bro
really happy you got another evo i used to love your evo videos and these are great
Nice. Can't imagine how complicated it must be changing the belt with the engine in the car.
