fopeano says:

The “dust” in the fluid comes from material wearing off the gear tooth
faces due to metal quality issues aside from clutch wear. I don’t get how
the gears can be so strong and this still happens, but that is for a
metallurgist to understand better than me. It’s what Mitsubishi has found
and it is inevitable, any trans expected to last should be maintained way
beyond factory spec. If dust is allowed to build up in the fluid, spool
valves in the valve body and shift fork pistons can fail to move freely in
their bores causing many drivability problems with or without codes.

MRT Performance says:

The SST trans is a manual box with electronic control on the shifting
nothing like a normal A/T

MRT Performance says:

@welcomedc never used it, BUT ATF is normally NOT suitable for this
trans………….

hey im about to buy a 2001 eclipse gs, the car has 102k miles, everything
is fine except that the transmission oil is a little brownish, the owner
bought it at an action and doesnt know if it ever had a tranni oil change,
if i buy it should i flush the transmission oil like some say, or leave it
since it only has 102k miles, please let me know as soon as possible thank
you

marek0086 says:

Im sure Redline would have something for these…. even if its not marketed
specifically for the “SST”. Are these electronically shifted?… or
electro-hydraulically shifted?

Greg Blackwell says:

Check out the big brain on Brett!!

marek0086 says:

Does the SST have a hydraulic circuit in it… similar to an A/T valve
body? Is there an oil pump inside the tranny?… and if so, what kind of
pressure does it run at?

MRT Performance says:

just be careful, the wrong oil can damage the SST trans

Puvid Avakul says:

Thinking about getting a Ralliart and I personally dont know much about
cars, should I buy one or hold off…?

ae86det says:

hey there i was wondering if you could please recommend me a gearbox and
differential oil for an evo 4. sorry just that i cant find a conclusive
answer and here in costa rica i cannot get the oem oils. most other brands
like castrol motul and redline are available. anyone know the info of a
compatible and good oil?

Danny T says:

So lucky I’m in Japan, they changed my oil for free at 12,000Kms and the
filter was only about $90AUD

marek0086 says:

RedLine synthetics.

rocktheroc says:

ive read alot about the sst gearboxes failuring, mainly a part inside even
without track work and with less than 10,000km on the clock,is it worth
opting for the manual and not going with the mr version.

Suavemente173 says:

Thank’s for update.

MRT Performance says:

@jacejai I would change it now, as far as oil BRAND, we use both genuine
and after market, the number one thing I WOULD do is the extra in line
filter, it will save you heaps in the future.

ahmed Al houti says:

i didn’t understand any thing was the video very noise with the surrounding

Jason Lee says:

get a subie

MRT Performance says:

I dont think they do a SST oil?

Puvid Avakul says:

Do you recommend them? From just watching some of your videos about the
transmission, it look like their problems with them.

MRT Performance says:

road test one!

marek0086 says:

Is there a pressure oil pump inside the tranny?

MRT Performance says:

the failures are mostly due to negligence

jacejai says:

Thanks Brett. So at what km do u recommend just the oil change in the sst?
I’ve done a shade under 30,000 and wasn’t really considering it until
recently that I might need this. Also, is there much difference between oem
and aftermarket oil for the sst both in performance and price because if
imagine some customers would prefer oem if there is not much difference in
these two respects.
