Mitsubishi GDI fault code P0190 and how to fix it, 4G94 engine, 2.0 GDI, Shogun Pinin

Mitsubishi GDI engines are rather sensitive when it comes to fuel system issues. The P0190 error code can be misleading at first sight, therefore it is important to go through the whole fuel system and make sure everything is in order. Changing random components is certainly not the right way to get to the bottom, especially if it is a sporadic fault.
The official description for this fault code is “Fuel pressure sensor circuit malfunction” but does not necessarily mean the sensor is faulty, a clogged filter can cause the same code, because the fault condition is a rather simple range check. Low pressure, e.g because of blocked filters, etc may trigger it as well
This video shows inspection and diagnosis, resulting in a $40 fix, rather than a new high pressure pump which is often suggested as a solution.
This particular car is a Shogun Pinin with the 2.0 GDI . 4G94 engine which was also used in other Mitsubishi Models, therefore the same principle will apply. To my knowledge this even applies to other GDi variants as well, including some GDI 6 cylinders.

Hi mate thanks for your videos i really appreciate your work, I own the Mitsy Shogun Pinin with the 2.0 GDI . 4G94 and I'm having misfiring issues, engine light it's always on, the car doesn't have much power, if i rev it up in neutral at 2000-3000 rpm and keep it revved up then the car starts running on four cilynders.
I put new spark plugs, it's running a bit smoother but it didn't solve the issue; may this be a faulty fuel sensor?

I would like to seek your assistance sir mine is 4g93 gdi with low power only revs at 4000 rpm

Hi DynoGuy I have exactly the same fault as this I'm just wondering after changing the sensor does the tank pump now run when you turn ignition on rather than just when it cranks as this is what mine is doing, I'm guessing it thinks it's already up to pressure so doesn't start tank pump which is making it a pain to start
