Mitsubishi alternator install and offroading

Installing a replacement alternator in a 2002 Mitsubishi Montero sport 3.5l. Talking about how to diagnose a bad alternator. Talking about the different SUV’s I’ve had over the years. And some new/old offroading videos.

Some PG13 language at the end.

You have a talent for teaching. Interesting to see how you started wrenching and welding. What sort of class was it, that you went to – a mechanic one?

i'm not a big fan of the Jeep Wrangler either. Though my friend loves them. I have no clue why he loves them, but he does. To each his own I guess. With minor suspension mods the Suzuki Samurai can go into tight places the Wrangler only wishes it could follow. Kind of reminds me of the old ATC vs ATV wars when it comes to places traveled. 🙂

I have an '88 Raider/Montero and I am always surprised in how good of shape it is in. Very little rust, and most of the bolts come loose. Rarely have to do any maintenance on it. Suspension is tight even after being delegated to a beater woods truck. Interior is still in great shape. My '87 Chevy truck is in decent shape, but it's clapped out in comparison to the Mitsubishi. The mid 90s Montero SR is a very underrated offroader. Tough drivetrain, boxed frame, and rear air locker if you ever come across a chance to buy one. The Troopers are good trucks too, but I always thought the 80s Monteros with the chrome trim looked way cooler.

Its been a long time since I took a hammer to a new alternator 🙂 I agree . Jeeps are junk .

Great video, nice to hear some of your backstory.

Enticing Earlobe says:

Just sell that thing and get yourself a toyota. Mine is 17 years old, 28500 miles, 4.2L v8, all original parts except for a radiator and fuel sensor.

eguy00 says:

I just got a 1986 trooper with a 2.2 diesel in it form $800. 257k miles and it runs sweet

snaremj says:

Do you tow with the Montero? If so how does she pull and stop?

arkansas13 says:

You're a mechanic and a builder, two great professions to have knowledge about.
Thanks for the video.

Had to change out the alternator in my 96 Nisan D21 a few months back. Cost $200 CND for a rebult unit.

Great video and right on the money with the Japanese SUV's / Trucks, most people that want a bullet proof rig will get something that is older and Japanese! I wish they still made simple trucks like this. If Toyota brought back the late 90's pickup with a 6 speed manual and a turbo diesel I'd buy two of them!
