You have the pull the yellow tab out rather than push it down. It kind of works as a pin on the side with holds all the other wiring pins in place. Once you have that removed, you simply push the new blue wiring pin in, you may have the rotate it depending on its shape some only go in one way.
How do you get the blue antenna wire into the back harness. I’ve tried pressing down on the yellow tab but it won’t budge down. What am I doing wrong.?

Easiest way would be to purchase an installation kit so the aftermarket stereo you are using is a direct plug and play setup. By the sounds of it, there isn’t a factory plug for the stock stereo though. Personally I would get another plug from the wrecking yard and repair the stock wiring so you still have a plug rather than just attaching the aftermarket harness directly to the car’s stock wiring. You could do it that route, but you’ll also need a factory wiring diagram for the car too.
i own a golf mark 2 and bought it used it has all the color wires and and the antena plug and the stereo that i bought has also the color cables but they are different… what should i do

Do you mean when the vehicle is only running??? It should work when the vehicle is either running or on the accessories option on the ignition switch. If the radio could be turned on with the vehicle off and no key in the ignition, that was a factory option which is built into the radio.

Yes you will… I believe there is a special box that you can adapt which allows you to keep your steering wheel controls, but I think it’s fairly expensive to buy. There may also be certain manufacturers of decks which allow you to keep those controls too. I believe Blaupunkt is one and it doesn’t require an adapter harness.

Any local car audio store should be able to order you one if they don’t carry it in stock. I bought mine from Best Buy.

If you pause it at 7:14, and see the two red and white cables hanging loose, what are they for because I just bought a truck and the radio gets power but there is no sound. So I took it apart and there is nothing connected to those two cables. Are they for the speakers? Please help
Is it a stock or aftermarket radio??? Do you also have an aftermarket amp attached to your stereo??? Possible if you have an aftermarket amp, it might not be turning off which would cause a drain. Or if it’s the radio itself, there could be something internally wrong with the stereo itself, therefore it would need to be replaced. The best way to check yourself is pull the fuse to the stereo system and see if the problem continues.

It could possibly be the amplifier in the antenna itself not powering up. So make sure that wire for the antenna adapter is actually getting power. Is it a new Sony stereo??? If not, there might even be something wrong with the AM band within the stereo itself.

The blue box is for the CD changer, the yellow is line outs and the green is some misc VW functions. Unless you have a cd changer or subwoofer, you can leave these out.

The radio was removed before the smog, the machine is fine but it can not read the car?
If you tried it before with the aftermarket stereo in, it may have burnt out a fuse within the diagnostic machine.
I’m having K Line issues, my car wont communicate with diagnostic machine. Do I need to pull the K Line pin out of the harness? The aftermarket radio has been removed.
Nope. For installing a sub-woofer, you would have to install an external amp as well. Then run RCA cables from the deck to the amp itself. Also connect up a remote wire from the deck to amp. Then a main power and ground wires to the amp. The power wire does have to connect directly to your battery and the ground to somewhere on the vehicle’s body. And the last step would be connecting the speaker wires from the amp to the sub-woofer itself.

mine actually had the real shark fin but i took the top off and it looks broken and i wasn’t getting good reception on most of my fm station..and what i wanted to do is install the original vw antenna..
Most of the Volkswagens, people just unscrew the stock antenna and glue the shark fin cap just over the existing base. Now there is also an aftermarket shark fine you can buy which are very hard to come across, and they include the build in booster also.
Do you need it even if you don’t have a powered antenna? cause when I bought my car it came with a shark fin antenna.
