I replaced my mercury themostat with a Lux programable, the fan worked for
a couple of minutes and then quit and hasn’t worked since. What would be
the cause?

Rich Callahan says:

More than likely your blue wire is going to go to the Y terminal. But you
can look in the furnace or air handler to see what the wires are hooked up
to in there. If you have any other questions let me know.

Disemvowel says:

I have: dayton electric thermostat model 2e215. It has a wire linked to
both an R terminal and one labeled 4. The Honeywell digital does not have a
4…the new one comes on, but does not blow hot air. Other than that, your
videos are spot on.

shepherda35 says:

What if you only have 4 wires (red, blue, white, green) – and you forgot to
label wires after you removed the old stat?

Rich Callahan says:

Please let me know if this video helps and any other questions you have for
me. Thank you

My thermostat does not have a G wire and I cannot run the fan by itself.
Can I connect something to this to get the thermostat to run just the fan?

modblogger1 says:

I have a forced air gas heater in my home. No A/C. Currently have a mercury
thermostat. Is there a good brand and model you recommend for a heater
only? Thank you.

Diabolik771 says:

It’s a White-Rodgers and it does have a fan/auto button. I took the cover
off and noticed nothing connected to the G. I don’t have AC, perhaps this
is why they didn’t connect this (I bought the house 2 years ago and all
this was here already) There is a ‘cross connect” between the two R’s. The
fan comes on only when the heat kicks on (in auto). I’m thinking the fan
gets power but doesn’t get the signal to turn on by itself (the G?)

Len Staley says:

I hae a Honeywell 30V Mercury Thermostat. The problem I am having is the
heat is still on. The thermostat is turned all the way down at 10c. It is
only a two wire set-up and it is a boiler radiant. If anyone can help to to
resolve this, I really would appreciate the help. The heat just won’t shut
off… Thanx…

Rich Callahan says:

You are right. The furnace itself will control the fan on and off in the
heat mode. This is done through a fan center (older furnaces) or a control
board (newer furnaces). The fan on is controlled by the g terminal. so look
inside the furnace and there should there is a wire hooked to it or a extra
wire that can be hooked to it. Then hook up that same wire at the
thermostat. This should work. After that is done and it still does not come
on let me know there is another possibility.

Rich Callahan says:

I would need to know what set up you have. Does your old thermostat have
ability to run your fan only? That would be a fan on or auto button on it.
Let me know, there may be another way.
